My mother, who is elderly and suffers from a whole list of medical conditions, has just noticed a hard lump on her wrist. I haven't seen it myself yet but I will be visiting her over the weekend and I'll be able to take a good look at it. What do you think this is? Any suggestions?

Hi! You mention that your mom has various medical problems. Would that happen to include arthritis? Bony lumps, especially near the wrists (affecting the joints) are quite common in arthritis patients and especially as they age. Normally, these do not need any additional treatment, though there are options. Hope that helps.

Yes, my mom HAS got arthritis! THANKS for replying so soon and putting my mind at ease a little. I had already started imagining she might have broken her wrist or something, because her eyesight has been deteriorating a lot and she has been known to fall. I'm surprise the nurse at the retirement community hadn't noticed, so I'll be speaking to them about it.
