Hello, I am 38 yrs old and found a quarter size hard lump on the left side of my back neck. It's been 3 mths since I first found it and noticed another one on the right side of neck right on the hair line 2 mths ago, now a very very tiny one on my cheek and another small one on back of my ear. About 6 mths ago i had a earache that hurt so bad blood dripped from ear. The doc said it was was a infection. about 5 mths ago my left side of neck would stiffen up and hurt terribly, it would go away and come back about every mth. It was the wierdest thing. A couple of time I tasted blood down my throat and tryed spitting it out and blood did come out. I have stomac ulcers,
inflammation of the arterie and pubic bone, I have sinusitis, little anemic, tired, and dizzy. I know it sounds pretty bad. I am getting a mri tonight. I am so scared. Anyone want to be honest with me? :-) I need some input, dr's giving me the run around.

Hello! I don't think you should worry so much. If this lump doesn't hurt and it doesn't change its size or become inflamed it is probably nothing. It is most probably a lymph node that swelled due to an infection of your throat, ear or a tooth. Lymph nodes can be enlarged as the result of an infection and they usually return to their normal size after few weeks, but sometimes they stayed little enlarged and never go back to normal. This is probably what happened to you. If you don't feel any other symptoms as fever, unexplained weight losing or night sweats there is no reason to worry.

Hi, I also have a swollen lymph node at the back of my right ear for a long time. Can this be caused by me not having an impacted/damaged third molar removed?

Cheers!

i had the same issue for about a year, I finally went to the dermatologist, it was just a cyst. The doctor drained it, and its been gone since. Dont freak out, but you should probably go to the dermatologist to get rid of it.

I had just discovered a lump behind my left ear. It sprung up out of the blue. I have gotten bumps in other parts of my head before. I've gotten one on my forehead just below my hair line. Lasted a couple of hours and disappeared. I have also gotten one on the right side of my forehead as well. Same thing lasted a couple of hours then went down. I thought it could be something from my bed due to the fact my dog was sleeping on it while i was away on a business trip. But after washing my bedding several times and cleaning the matresses it hasn't seemed to work. I am going to schedule an appointment and get some blood work done to find out what us wrong.

I think I can help:
I have these too! mine are painful when they appear and move sightly. The very first time I experienced it I thought it was either a huge zit or a fly bite because of the sore on it.

I experienced it off and on for about a year before I had my dad look at it. He didnt like it so we visited the doctor. Since my blood counts, mainly white cells, were normal, we knew I didn't have any type of infection. So, we discussed my entire medical history and other symptoms I experienced.
- itchy, red, and flaky/scabby scalp (previously written off as eczema)
- the lymph nodules behind my ears, as well as under my armpits.
- frequent and severe migraines

He refered me to an ENT because he just didn't know. The ENT put some sort of camera up one nostril. Once he was finished he asked me, "does your scalp ever break out?" and I told I had eczema, so it was always broken out. Turns out the scalp is a symptom of what was going on. Do I ever get severe migraines? 'yes, everyday.' He told me he could solve all three of my problems in one:

The cause of my issue is that some of the blood vessels in the back of my neck and head are for some undetermined reason, enlarged. I don't fully understand what all the doctor told us, but what i do know is that these blood vessels are the reason for my migraines ( ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***). Also, there is some kind of fluid I have too much of.I don't remember which fluid unfortunately, nor do I remember the connection it has with the enlarged blood vessels. I can ask again and reply later. But this fluid is used by the body for flushing out "intruders." It caused my lymph nodes to "think" they had become infected themselves. The fluid was too dense in the lymph nodes, and in order to try and get rid of some, my body treated it like an infection. When you have an infection, this fluid passes through the lymph nodes. So, even MORE of the fluid would fill my lymph nodes. Vicious cycle. This same fluid caused the sores and itching on my scalp.

This is probably a bit confusing because there are pieces of information I don't remember. Sorry! But what they did for me is prescribe depakote (usually taken in larger doses for seizures). This medication shrinks the size of the blood vessels in the neck/head. As long as I take it regularly, I WILL NOT get migraines, my scalp is clear, and the lymph nodes are no where to be heard from. But if I slip up on the timing  of the dose, first my scalp itches and breaks out, then I will get a few migraines (or, God forbid it, a multiple-day extended one), and if I go long enough without, the lymph nodes swell.

I really hope that this brings at least a little light to the subject. I won't hesitate to have my doctor explain it to me again if anyone wants me to. Just let me know.

I have an itchy scalp, been feeling
nauseous recently and my lump behind my let ear has been growing really
fast. At first i wanted to pop it thinking it was a pimple of some sort
but now it's just getting bigger and has really made my ear much bigger.
I'm worried as to what it is. If its just a fungus, what are the cures? Should i go consult a dr?
Let me know if anyone knows about this.

Hi everyone, I have been reading all the posts about lumps found behind ears and how wether you should be worried and go see your doctor. I think it is always wise to see your doctor, even if it turns out to be nothing to worry about, at least your mind is at rest. I just wanted to inform you to not just think it's nothing, she'll be right. As my husband noticed a lump come up slowly behind his right ear, skintone colour. He thought it was a blind pimple to start with. No pain, some inflamation and in about a year was the size of the end of a pencil and raised. Not thinking anything of it as it didn't hurt and was skincolour. After about a year he went to the doctors about another medical issue and I told him to get the lump looked at by the doc. He came home and the doc had said it looked like a benign tumour and removed it and sent it away for testing. Three days later my husband got a call that the doc needed to see him right away. So we went in and found out that he actually had the most aggressive form of skin cancer, called nodular melanoma. And that due to him having a tumour depth of 5mm he now has a poor prognosis. His survival rate for 5 years is 45 to 60% and 10 years onwards is 33 to 45%. The uncertainy of his life now is very hard to cope with and I just wanted you all to go get checked out, you just never know what you might find out. It could be nothing or it could be something.
