before you get a biopsy, you should know a biopsy could spread the cancer if that's what it is! i had a lump left side of neck ,was told it was cancer after thy did a needle biopsy, like a jerk let Dr talk me into going for chemo and radiation, after 7 weeks Dr told you only have 1 week left! went right to the hospital and was put on antibiotics for 6 days, i now have problems with my stomach and wake up with a sore throat every morning not to mention the horrible taste in my mouth (chemo and radiation treatment is for m****s) i wish i had read about that miserable treatment first

Just yesterday I took my two yea old daughter into the Doctor because she had a lump behind her ear. The diagnoses was her lymph node had swollen and not to worry. Well I began to ask questions because how can I not worry all he did was look at it for a few seconds and that was it. So the doctor went into a little more detail of course and informed me that a healthy lymph node swells and shrinks and an unhealthy lymph node swells and keeps getting bigger. So as we began to talk I remembered that she was scratching her scalp and itched to hard and had a very small cut. So as the doc explained that cut allowed some type of bacteria or infection to get in her body and the lymph node enlarged to fight off the infection...which is what its function is in the body. So my profession is a Hair Stylist, I have one daughter, and I have been told that her scalp is sensitive and to refrain from doing her hair as much as possible, which sucks. So all in all no big worry but a concern. I would suggest if you are unsure about something never let it linger go to the doctor to figure out what it is. Just for piece of mind.

I have had a lump behind my right ear for at least 10 years that I can remember.  I rarely think about it and always have forgotten to mention it to a Dr. It has never hurt and has always been the same size. I am 28/F. I just happened to think about it tonight and googled it.

There are 2 knots behind my ear. One is quit small and the other is a little bigger. I am unsure of what they are. Do you know? They hurt sometimes and I try to tell my parents. Should I get them checked out? I am 12 years old and am in 6th grade. I've had them since 4th grade.

I've had swollen lymph nodes for about 11 years. When I was 10 I finally said something to my parents about them and we went straight to the doctor. I had 1 on each side of my neck and 1 behind my ear. When the doctor did a needle biopsy on the right side, the knot had split in half. Because of that they decided to do surgery and see if they could determine what it was, but they found nothing and the knot went away on the left side for about 2 weeks then came right back. Its been 9 years and I still have these knots and I don't know what they are. My doctor just diagnosed me with "Cat Scratch Fever" and I haven't had a cat since.

Hi there.

I have the same thing currently, and I'm going to see the doctor on monday just to make sure it's not cancerous. Because at this point it seems to be a swollen lymph node, and I just want to make sure that it's not lymphoma, and if it is, we can catch it early. I don't think I have anything to worry about though, I found a small bump on the back of my throat last week, so the swollen lymph node may be a cause of that infection. Furthermore, from most of my childhood (like from the age of three to ten) I had routine doctor's appointments because I had swollen lymphnodes on my neck that proved to be nothing, they still swell up everyonce in a while, but that's really why I'm not terribly worried about this. It doesn't hurt, it's not red, and it doesn't seem to be causing me any illness. But nonetheless, it's always a good idea to check with a doctor to make sure that if it's anything more malignant, you can catch it early. (:

Hi there,

I'm wondering if you ever found out the cause, I have recently developed really similar symptoms, I'm being referred to the ear nose and throat specialist, but in the mean time I would like to know if you found out the cause or have any suggestions for alleviating the symptoms.

Thanks

hI Pauline,

I see that this post was a year ago, forget all of the thank you's for the post. Did you go to the doctor? I prey that you did because all of your simptoms seem really serious. I just found a hard lump behind my left ear no pain, no dizzyness, or feelings that I may pass out, and I am going to the doctor on holloween. Trick or Treat, yaya

Don't worry a bit!  I've had a bump on my shoulder and my ear since as long as I can remember.  It's all natural!  My doctor said it is most likely vitamin C buildup.  It makes me unique aswell as my left ear missing tissue, My weak knee caps, My ever-changing eyes, my severe asthma, my tetrollagy of fallot ( a conjenitol heart defect), and that white tongue thingy.  It's almost like one of those.

hoped I helped, E33a1
