I have exactly the same symptoms for about 2 years.First i was diagnosed for Gastritis. After i finished with the medical treatment the symptoms as irregular and fast heartbeat were still present. And always after eat felt my stomach very full even i eat very less food.Lot of air was built in the stomach making pressure on the stomach walls, followed with movement.About 7 months ago i made GI exam something like X-Ray and they found that my stomach has been moved from its original position. Now is in horizontal upper position near to the heart. The doctor said that is not a problem even is making a pressure after eat to the heart.I sugested them a operation but they denieded.Visited a lot of doctors till today and still no results.Keep feeling bad after eating, heart get faster, anxiety and blury vision are present.Still searching for Doc who can help.

I am in your boat! Have had the tests, blood, EKG, nuclear stress etc. Am having endoscopy this week. I am 38 yrs old and male. Have had same symptoms for years off and on. Lexapro seems to help the big picture for me. It is what it is; and finding nothing specific to say "this is it" I guess I will need to live with the generalized diagnosis and the generalized treatment. Anxiety definately makes this 10x worse. I also take Toporol for blood pressure and zanex as needed (both low doses). I sure wish a real doctor would see all this info from so many and finally take time to help us out. Seems like there has been a ton of wasted money just taking shots at what it could be. Does anyone take Ambien by chance? I have also been taking this for sleep for over 3 yrs now? And they say it is not addictive. Wondering if this is something that is a connection for any of us or the contributing cause.
Good luck to all of you!

I have had various spasms in my body before, which seem to migrate around. In the past, I've had spasms in my eyelid or in the large muscle beside my thumb. I have always wondered what it was caused by, but assumed some sort of chemical buildup in my muscles, or anxiety. It is very strange. I have never had a spasm in my stomach though...until today! It's driving me nuts! I can't concentrate because like the other examples, I have spasms just under my sternum. I also seem to be experiencing the irregular heart palpitations (which has happened before on its own, which I'm not really too worried about). I don't experience any pain, just curiousity. Is my brain subconsciously causing it or is it toxins in my bloodstream? Usually, my spasms last in one area of my body for just a few hours but so far this stomach spasming has been on and off all day.

I'm really glad to have found this topic. I have only been suffering these symptoms for 3 days and decided to go to A&E today. Tightening of the stomach as if it was a contraction, heart racing, feeling dizzy and wanting to just lay on the floor where ever i was, terrible sweating. I told the doctor my symptoms and he pressed around my belly for a bit then used his stethoscope to listen and said that he heard alot of movement in my stomach. I had a lot of accumulated gas. He also asked me if i was more nervous or stressed now than usual, which i am. So i have 2 answers to my problem. STRESS and ACCUMULATED GAS. He has given me some tablets to stop the spasms which will hopefully stop the pain that they cause.
I hope you all find some kind of solution or at least an answer....... ;-)

Wow this is amazing I too am suffering from the same thing. With me it’s been going on for about 3 years now and have had upper GI and lower GI exam, stress test, sleep apnea test, 3 endoscopy’s , EKG, have warn the heart monitor for 24 and 48 hours. Taken nexium, have slept with my head upright at night because doctors thought it could be caused by acid reflux. I use to smoke but gave that up a long time ago. Now into fitness and thought I was over doing it by working out at least 4 times a week. Have a drink every now and then and thought the alcohol was causing it. Every test I passed with flying colors, I thought the doctors felt like I was a little strange because I was getting so frustrated because no one could figure this out and felt like I was on my own. I started loosing weight; I felt that maybe if I could get my weight down to when I was in my 20’s maybe I would stop feeling this. I also noticed that this is at its worst after I eat, feels like the food gets stuck in my esophagus and felt the spasms were coming from there as well. Also thought that the part of the stomach that open and closes was opening and closing at the wrong time. I also notice that when these spasms occur if I check my pulse it feels that my heart stops for a mil of a second and then continues. I was then told it maybe palpations and am now taking atennol “beta blocker” for blood pressure and to slow down the heart.
With everyone here that is experiencing this you would think doctors would look more into this. But because the test past they feel there is nothing wrong.
I will not be satisfied until I find out what the heck this is.
If anybody finds out please post this so we can all be cured.
Thanks

I first felt these stomach spasms about 6 years ago at age 19 upon waking up early in the morning after a night out on the town. They subsided after about 2 hours and I was able to sleep again.
After that morning, I didn't feel the spasms again until earlier this year when I woke up with them. I thought maybe I was causing them through anxiety (that night I had been experiencing what I would describe as a heavy heartbeat that had me a bit nervous), but trying to remain calm didn't help. I got out of bed and noticed they would go away upon standing, so I just stayed awake for the day.
That night I was fine, but the next night I started experiencing the spasms again shortly after going to bed. So, being pretty freaked out at this point I decided to go to the ER. They ran a blood test, EKG, X-Ray'd my chest and told me I might have pericarditis due to a recent flu (which I didn't really buy because it had been about 3 weeks since I had gotten over it). So, the doctor put me on aspirin for 2 weeks and said to take it easy.
At that point I stopped drinking coffee and turned into a vegetable for awhile, but the spasms didn't come back for awhile.
However, 3 months later they returned. Since then, they're becoming more and more frequent to the point that it's almost a daily affair. They're also easier to trigger than before and something as simple as leaning forward slightly, coughing or even tilting my head forward to look down can cause them to go off. It's almost as though I'm just particularly sensitive to them at times as it can feel like I'm right on the edge of triggering them and that a wrong move will set them off (which from my experience, is often true). Other times I'll feel fine and can do things that would normally trigger them.
I haven't been able to link them to an empty or full stomach, gas or heartburn, certain types of food or particular emotional states. For example, I was sitting here working yesterday and my stomach was spasming away (albeit only slightly) but I wasn't thinking about it at all. My heartrate was low and I didn't feel anxious, but I wasn't able to make the spasms stop or explain why they started. I've also tried a magnesium supplement for the heck of it and it didn't help.
I've been to two doctors and they both think it's related to anxiety. The first doc was a complete jerk and didn't seem to think I should even be there, while the second seemed a bit more willing to hear me out, though he still thinks it's in my head after two visits. I'm going in for a blood test tomorrow, but I doubt it'll show anything.
It seems to be that if you aren't bleeding or writhing in pain then most doctors aren't interested in pursuing more difficult to diagnose problems. My uncle lost an eye and the area of his face around it due to cancer. He went to three doctors and none of them thought it was necessary to investigate the strange burning sensation in his cheek that was getting worse as time went by. Surprise!
Unfortunately, this has really screwed my life around because I'm nervous to go anywhere as I don't wanna be stuck in a public situation with these spasms. Just last week my Dad came to visit my brother and I after several years apart and I didn't feel safe going out to dinner with them, so I stayed home. That's not cool!
I'd love to believe it's anxiety because then it feels like I can at least try to do something about it. I haven't been in a good state of mind during the past year (more depression than anxiety), but because I've dealt with anxiety from infancy I find it hard to believe that I'd suddenly start to develop this issue, particularly as I've been in more difficult and stressful situations in the past.
For the record, it feels like something is being squeezed under the area at the top of my solar plexus. When mild it isn't too bad and just feels like my heart/stomach is being slightly-squeezed. As it gets worse, the sensation becomes more constant and pulses more noticeably with my heartbeat. It can even make my heart seem to beat harder and like it's coming into contact with something else, i.e. another organ, and creating a slight "knocking" sensation. Also, my stomach will move up and down quite noticeably with my heartbeat, but my pulse will feel fairly weak at my neck. There's absolutely no pain associated with this, just the awful sensation of having one's organs touching in ways they shouldn't
How many of you also deal with anxiety? This is more a question for those without GERD, as I don't think I'm dealing with that.

I have similar symptoms, but i still think no one in the world goes through what I have to go through.
this occurs about twice a year and usually when i suddenly exert myself from a rest position, i.e. jumping up from bed to get the phone.
what happens is right after the exertion my heart is sent into a fast and chaotic heart beat, I get flushed with panic and I have only my mortality to contemplate as I wait for it to stop, which takes 5 minutes.
When it happened to me yesterday I had the wherewithal to remain calm and what I noticed was that my upper stomach (just under the last rib above my stomach) was spasming.
i too have that feeling like i can feel my stomach, and it flutters from time to time, but has anyone ever had what i described?
it's so hard to describe this to the doctor and get something other then another 48 hours in a holter monitor.

Wow - finally there are people out there who have the exact same thing that I have. I have been dealing with this for 8 years and was beginning to think I was crazy. I had my gallbladder taken out in May hoping that is what was causing this, but the symptoms have come back now. I have had 2 heart caths and all the normal tests with nothing found.

Wow, sounds exactly like what I've been going through. I agree with the artery out of place as a partial cause. I also think that I may have had a bowel looped wrong (I can't remember the tech term) which caused what felt like a hiatus hernia.
But here's the BIG THING, you all should look into MSG sensitivity. There are several web sites (www.truthinlabeling.org) that describe many of the same symptoms.
Mine came on rather suddenly, probably due to stress, but now I am very sensitive to the stuff. I have found that when I eliminate ALL MSG in all its many hidden forms (especially Barley Malt) my heart problems STOP. Completely. It may take 24 to 48 hours to get the stuff out of your system, and you have to read every label VERY carefully, but at least for me, I am now getting a good night's sleep with no worries or anxiety.
I hope this helps. Good luck to you all.

I have similar symptoms too, such as sensations of changes in heart rate, stomach flutters and feeling like I am going to stop breathing, limbs going to sleep. I feel these things even more as I am about to fall asleep, which causes me to wake up. I have had this off and on but very rarely until this summer. Suddenly it has increased by a lot, and I think it is because of coffee and maybe lactose intolerance that I have not yet identified. I was doing ok and then today I asked for a decaf late and the guy made a mistake. I told him not to worry about it and drank the coffee anyway. Tonight can't sleep cause of these sensations. Could be the coffee/milk???
My doctor dismissed this as just stress.

50yrs old, Male, 6'3". 215. I've been living with these exact symptoms for more than 25years! When I was a young man the "attacks" would be so severe that I would have to lay down convinced I was about to die and would beg my God to save me. Most days I can accept the sensations as NON-life threatening and go on with my day. Some times I panic which increases the symptoms. Through trial and error this is what I can do to reduce and sometimes eliminate the "attack". 1. Bowel movements seem to instantly stop the sensations. At least 75percent of the time. 2. Laying on the bed with my waist on the edge and hanging the rest of my body down to the floor. 3. Heating a damp bath towel in the Microwave and holding it below below my last rib on the left side with alot of pressure.
4. Get down on the floor on all fours and allowing my abdomen to relax and hang down as far as possible. I have also fasted for two days realizing it happens after I eat or drink and the attacks will not come.
The Doctor is convinced it is stress, which is probably correct, but the eating or drinking connection escapes us both. I am at the point now where I have modified my diet in an attempt to isolate possible food triggers. No dairy, LOW sodium, No high acidity, No chocolate, No foods hotter than room or body temp and lots of fluids.
I had a friend suffering from the same problems who SWEARS regular visits to the Chiropractor has done the trick. I have not tried this. Although, from time to time vigorous stretching of my neck muscles and shoulders does seem to help. ?
I would love to be free of this malady and I will continue to monitor this site in hope that someone finally figures it out. To all those who have contributed I say THANK YOU for the help. It pains me to think that there are probably millions of folks out there dealing with the anxiety and discomfort of these symptoms and not having a clue that they are really ok and not having a heart attack or will die.

I was amazed when I found this site. I have been dealing with this since I was 16. It has come and gone over the years but the past two days has brought me to this site looking for answers.
I have always has this heart fluttering feeling, being able to feel my heartbeat after I eat, the feeling of needing to burp but can't (sometimes burping has subsided the symptoms), severe bloating. . . all seeming to be associated with after eating, but it has never lasted for two days. It has always been a few minutes or so. Two days of this and I am going nuts. I ended up going to the hospital last night due to the fact it has never lasted long and I was sure that it had to be a heart attack. They found nothing, as I see others on here have had to deal with. I know I am not crazy, as I am sure all the ER staff last night thought. I just want this fixed and don't know where to turn. I can deal with it periodically lasting for a few minutes at a time, but not two days.
I am seeing my new Doc in the morning for a check up, will tell him what's happening and tell him of this site and the things I read.
I am so glad I found this. I feel so much better knowing I am not the only one going through this. If any solutions are found, please post them. I will be keeping a check on this site.
