I've been just about four months smoke free and I too have yet to start the coughing and the ridding of mucus.. I sometimes feel the need to clear my throat .. feels like phlegm is lingering in the back of my throat .. I've smoked for 43 years and quit cold turkey.. what bothers me most of all is the heartburn and heart palpitations and skipping beats.. it's scary but I'll never revert back.. good luck on your success

The time when my ECG was abnormal was done in a GP clinic, the next day i went to A&E to double check, doctor was saying it was normal.. And didna blood test on my heart again and it shows normal.. But WHY i still get the palpitating heart? Is Anxiety the culprit?

4 months ago I quit, these symptoms began approximately 5-6 weeks ago.. I'm still dealing with heartburn, palpitations and skipping beats... unbelievable how much this scares me with the heart. An abnormal ekg sent me to the ER at York Hospital I made an appointment to see my doctor after waiting a ridiculous amount of time in the ER I left.. my doctor said I didn't have heart disease but prescribed me a beta blocker to slow my rapid heart beats and decrease my blood pressure... I deal with these damn things nearly every night.. experiencing some during the daytime but it's not nearly as noticeable as it is when I'm laying down to sleep... scary.. but from what I've been reading this appears to be pretty common... best of luck

You're saying that after one month of quitting you have nothing, no side effects at all ?

Hi everyone, I just now registered on here.. I just need to say that I quit smoking on June 7,2017 and went seven and a half months without smoking. I am a 58 year old woman who had smoked cigarettes for 43 years.. quite heavily. The past ten years were two packs a day.. one week ago today I caved and began smoking cigarettes again.. I'm so disappointed with myself but I need to explain why I picked it back up again.. HEART PALPITATIONS !!!  This has been going on now for months.. this is scary as hell to me and I can't seem to find out a concrete answer to the duration these last. I'm going to attempt to quit smoking again but from what I've heard cold turkey is the hardest and causes more severe side effects. Not only with this came heartburn, OMG the heartburn.. it was horrific.. I was not one that ever suffered with it.. bloating and weight gain. I need to know...GOD how much I need to know how long these can go on. I'd truly be grateful for you all to give me some insight.. I don't want to keep smoking, the cost is hurting my pocket and my health.. to all those who quit and remain cigarette free GOD bless you, and for us who strive to fight this fight I wish you all the best for success

Hello, i have the exact symptoms as you! I’m at Day 33 & just had my cardiologist appointment today & was told all was good. He said the palpitations weren’t dangerous & to take magnesium tablets. How long did the palpitations last for you? I’m praying they go soon so I can actually start getting some good sleep :( Thankyou

Unfortunately I still get palps, and it is most likely I will have them indefinitely. They were diagnosed as PVC'S AND PAC'S, they are harmless on there own but the anxiety that comes with them is almost unbearable. I was recently put on prozac for the anxiety and propanolol to reduce the palps. So far both are working great for me.

I was wondering was PAC's are and PVC's are.. i started smoking again after seven and a half months of quitting only because the side effects were horrible.. after coming up close to a month of smoking again they still come and go..new doctor on Thursday hoping to get some much needed answers..this scares me

I quit cold turkey 4 months and I'm on a beta blocker. I still get heart palpitations. Not sure what causes it but I'm never going back to smoking.
