i have the same problem only when mine starts i start to black out a little and when i breath the air feels very cold in my lungs. i went to the cardilogist when i was 10 and they diagnosed me with MVP, which no dr hase even heard since. i went to the hosp twice and the dr swore i was taking street drugs which i dont. they gave me a beta blocker and sent me on my way. it happens when i go from hot to cold and jump or cough too hard. sounds weird but i dnt know what it is... its really scary esp when driving with my 2 yr old and i s tart to black out... not cool

Your advice seems fair however I am told that garlic can be strong enough to cause severe stomach problems taken directly as you suggest. It was recommended to me that the garlic be crushed first (even if roughly with a spoon) and added to a heavily buttered slice of bread which is then folded in half and eaten by bites (but not chewed). The butter helps to protect the stomach whilst digestion occurs. I ain't no doctor but I have taken such a remedy myself on several occassions with benefit.

I'm not trying to push Ip's opinion here (I haven't researched the effects of garlic specifically for blood pressure) yet perhaps Ip is saying garlic is a blood pressure 'regulator' ie. that it helps to balance/normalise blood pressure. ??

My suggestions for you is get a better cardio doctor. You have a serious problem that could be life threatening.

If you were in a coma because of your heart rate and were put on a beta blocker, you need to see a cardiologist. Insist upon it with your primary care physician or get a new one. We have to be proactive about our health.

I had the super fast heart beats as well. The doctor said everything was normal. The doctor was an id**t. So I went to see a acupuncturist and he cured the problem in one session. Cost me a bit of money but it worked. If you all wanna try that make sure that the acupuncturist is properly trained and give preference to them if trained in mainland China. Worked for me.

I have had the awful night racing heartbeat but no longer! I take 400 mg of magnesium daily and it solved this problem for me. I had every heart test imaginable and had no heart issues at all but the specialists could not tell me why I was waking with a racing heart. I read somewhere that magnesium is good for the heart and it is used in emergency rooms. That is when I decided to give it a try. It took just a few days to resolve my night time racing heart problem. Several times I mentioned this to my primary care physician and his response was always, "well your blood work doesn't show a low magnesium count." Maybe not but it truly works for me. I know this because a few months ago I got off schedule and wasn't taking my supplements regularly. I had the rapid heart beat a couple of nights and realized I wasn't taking the magnesium. Got back on it and the problem ceased. I am a believer! I would advise you to read up on magnesium and perhaps talk to your physician before taking this supplement. Make the best decision for your needs. I will continue to watch this site to see if anyone else has had relief from this.

My girlfriend just had a similar episode of Supraventricular Tachycardia (rapid heartbeat). Took her to the ER and the doctor said caffeine (and external stress) is the possible cause of the scare. She is very sensitive to caffeine, one cup of coffee in the early afternoon can keep her up all night and she would end up getting very little sleep. So in the past 2 weeks she's been having a cup a day in the morning because of work. Doc said the dosage of caffeine may be too much for her to handle. To calm her heart rate down from 170 bpm, the doc injected 5ml of Metoprolol, a receptor blocker. Her heart rate immediately dropped to the low 100's and eventually back into the 70's after an hour lying on the hospital bed. In the ER she had some EKG and blood test done and all that appeared normal. Her blood pressure was also within range with 101/70 after her heart rate relaxed. She was discharged in 4 hours and was prescribed Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg tablets to be taken once a day. Also she'll be seeing a cardiologist for follow up.

Quick edit to the above post, my girlfriend was bending over to pick up something on the floor when she felt the heart started racing a bit, maybe in the low 100's bpm. But after she felt asleep she was awoken by the rapid heartbeat in cold sweat, numbness in arms and legs, and shortness of breath.
