I started having hives once I quit birth control. Several different types of hives that made it difficult to sleep and hives that formed deep under my skin like golf balls on my feet that made it uncomfortable to even walk.  I would get lumps where I carried my purse, wearing belts caused problems, kneeling to clean things created painful swelling,  even where my butt bones pressed into the wood on a bench or concrete step large deep hives would form. Any pressure on my body would create a deep swollen lump that itched and burned intensely.  I also would have the rashy hives and hives that formed from drawing on your body with your finger.

I prayed and God is faithful.  I changed doctors twice because they wouldn't listen to me when I said that I had narrowed it down to being related to my menstrual cycle and eventually found a Gyn and an allergist that confirmed my suspicion.  I suffered from 2003-2009 and my Gyn suggested that I consider getting an ablation and if that didn't work a hysterectomy.  I was done having children and decided on the ablation.  It worked wonders. I went from taking xertec, allgra and xantac each day (all three) to none within  a short time afterwards.  It has been almost ten years and they haven't returned.  Interestingly, when I tell other doctors that the ablation worked, they say it shouldn't have effected my hormones or stopped my hives.  I know that it did.

I should say that I also needed the ablation because my period had become increasingly heavier and my iron levels were so low that they weren't registering on the scale due to the blood loss and I was in need of an iron transfusion.  The ablation and iron supplements was a better solution. It has been 8 years and the ablation is still working.  Some people have to get another one.

Recently, for menopause symptoms my GYN prescribed a hormone pill and I was desperate so gave it a try and quickly realized that wasn't going to work, the hives began to come back.  So once again verifying for me that my hives are hormone related and I was not crazy.  Don't give up, pray, find the right doctor and insist on things you know about your body.
