I read through almost all the posts, cannot believe what I thought was my assumption is actually a fact. I have been getting hives ON & OFF and couldnt relate to anything except when I went out in cold air. Last symptom was 2 days ago just before i thought i was going to have my periods.
We for me Unisom works fine. makes u feel sleepy but one of the doctors also told me that for any kind of reactions to Narcotics where I found my body itching, Unisom helps.
Thought of sharing Unisom as one more remedy or temp. reliev.

Hi everyone,
I am 21 years old. I am so happy to have found this thread. I have been reading through and I feel a lot better about my hives coming before and after my period; the hives just started up in November. I have never been on birth control, and I could not figure out what was happening because I have never had an allergic reaction before.
My first outbreak was the worst. I was covered head to toe. After that, the outbreaks with my PMS are smaller; a patch on the arm, or on the leg is all that shows up. Benadryl only helped slightly. It took away the itch, but only while I was sleeping because of the drowsiness Benadryl caused. :P
If anyone has additional advice about how I can help with my hives, please let me know. Birth control is not an option and I am not able to take anything that's stronger than a Benadryl because of my heart condition. Thank you!

I started getting hives that burned and itched like no other. I finally went to an allergist and he put me on zyrtec and zantac at night. It went away just like that. 5 years later I am now 42 and am breaking out in hives not as bad but now I am wondering what the deal is. I have went to my doctor to see about menapause, her comment you are to young. I am not feeling myself so later went back to her and again nothing. So went to get a second opinion because I am loosing focus, memory. I am told something is distracting me. I really feel it is my hormones. This has helped me so I can just go to the dr and request testing.

I have been a chronic hive sufferer for 22 years and like many of you I suspected hormones as the underlying factor. While even though I had hives everyday they were so worse during the time of the month, almost deadly at times. the night I gave birth to my daughter I was so badly disfigured from hives and angiodema that the allergist took pictures of me for science. I have lived off and on prednisone for all these years..nothing else helped. Anyhow NO doctor listened to me for 20 years until I moved to California and I met an Internal medicine doctor (they are like medical detectives) He listened to me and said, "Let's test your theory". He prescriped me Lupron which would shut down my ovaries, I took 3 shots and as my ovaries were shutting down I noticed the hives improving enough that I weaned off prednisone. By the time I was no longer having periods my hives were completely gone for the first time in 20 years!! My theory was right. He said the only full cure would be to remove my ovaries so he referred me to get that done HOWEVER obgyn decides she wants to play God and start the process all over again by experimenting with my hormones. So she put me on Estrogen..Hive started to increase. I immediately stopped the synthetic estrogen and the hives left. Shutting down my ovaries to me was like jump starting them again. I no longer take prednisone but I still deal with a little angiodema (tissue swelling) when ever heat and pressure is applied to an area of skin. So that is my story. I hope it helps someone out there. I am probably one of the very few women on this earth that can not wait until menopause :)

Glad to know I'm not alone! I am 40 and this just started happening to me. I went to a naturopath. She said that this has something to do with falling levels of estrogen and progesterone and the fact that the adrenals are trying to compensate for this and they are producing cortisol. She gave me an herbal blend to support the adrenals. She also recomendlea upping fruits and vegetables. Fish oil and vitamin C are also very helpful. ive noticed that if I cut down or eliminate inflammatory foods like wheat and sugar, alcohol etc it helps. I also take Calm Mag ( a magnesium supplement) before bed. I don't love salads and I crave sweets and bread but it's better than dealing with the hives. I feel like doctors would rather give you a drug with crazy side effects or tell you you're crazy. If you can find a good naturopath I think they can give you some good recommendations. Good luck!

allegra isn't famotidine, famotidine is pepcid. Allegra is fexofenadine. Just don't want anybody to get confused :)

I can feel hives like rash but you can not see anything it feels like I have put achohol on my face and it will not go away it. Its crazy its only from my upper lip down, I also get a small rach non burning but slight itch on just one arm every month right before my cycle. I mentioned this to my Gyno. a year ago and she looked at me like I was crazy and said it maybe hormone related she took me off my birth control but this has not helped it almost seems to be worse at times. I am 41 and I know i am pre-menopausal just wondering it that could have anything to do with the itchty burin hives

I am so happy to not feel all alone. I am the mother but my 19 year old daughter just started breaking out 3 months ago. It started with her feet. She was so miserable she couldn't walk. Doctor said she has plantar faciatis (sp). He started treating her for that with Naproxen and she broke out in awful welts. We all assumed it was a reaction to the Naproxen. Steroids, shots, benedryl, nothing was helping at all. She was put in the hospital with ivs and antibiotics and the welts got better.....but she also started. I am going to now be monitoring this closely. She was clear for a while then it started back. She gets these spots about the size of a quarter at first but they spread out and itch and burn. They hurt her. Eyes have swollen, feet, hands she is miserable. Allerigist has her on allegra 180 and tylenol only...... I can hardly wait to see what all everyone finds out.........
