Depending on the reason are you trying to control your fat gain level - if it's just as a part of a normal weight gain or if you are specifically training, for example, like an athlete, you might want to use completely free - but less accurate way, or you might want to get the tools that directly measure how thick are your fat layers on certain parts of your body. Sometimes you can find those in the gym, especially in the bodybuilding dedicated gyms.

The free, less accurate way might suit your needs if you are just trying to gain weight. Than you'll simply have to rely on the right proportion of fat-burning exercise and high-calorie food.
