Couple months back, I started C25k. Finished, no problems, felt great. Started Bridge to 10K, and was managing 50 minute runs.

Then, tragedy. Towards the end of one of my runs, I developed a stitch (for the first time in years, incidentally). Because there were only a few minutes left, I pushed through it. The next time, the stitch set in early and I was only able to run for 10 or so minutes.

I tried breathing deeply, not eating 1 hour beforehand, being hydrated, and belly breathing, but to no avail. After that, it would not go away, even after plenty of rest. I felt it constantly, even just walking or stretching. When trying to go for another run, the stitch got very bad within just a few minutes.

Frustrating though it was, I decided to rest. Maybe the attempts at running were making it worse. I spent a week without any running.

Today I tried again, following advice. Stretching. Deep, even, belly breathing. Good form. Not on a full stomach. But I got another damned stitch, within 10 minutes.

Running is a way for me to relax, to get rid of stress, to feel good about myself. Not being able to is so frustrating.

What the heck do I do?
I'd appreciate any help, truly.

There are a couple of things that you can try when you feel a stitch coming on. First of all you need to watch out for the signs of stitch because as soon as you feel it coming on you should try the following:

Breath all the way out - i mean empty your lungs and keep doing this in-between breaths until the stitch goes away.

Slow to a walk and put your hands on your head as you breath.

Slow down

Dont drink the night before a race - you usually watch people throw up on race day if they have been drinking the night before!

Hope that helps!
