Hi. I had my first panic attack a little under a year ago, and ever since then I've been having issues with it. A thought will come to my mind, and no matter how ridiculous it is, I'll obsess about it and worry about it and panic about it until I can finally get my mind off of it. It's gotten so bad that lately I've been having a hard time eating and sleeping, and it's even been interfering with my school work. I would get professional help, but I just can't afford it. I've researched my symptoms, and I'm pretty sure it's either just generalized anxiety or harm OCD. I also think this might be linked to depression, because both of my parents suffer from that, but again, I'm not sure. Does anyone know how to overcome this without the use of medicine? Or does anyone know an online, free source that helps people with anxiety like this? Thank you so much.

Hello,

Generally the worst thing you can do when you're suffering from anxiety disorder is to self-diagnose and research online. I'm saying this because anxiety is a condition that will force you to recognize yourself in the worst symptoms and will keep you in constant fear and panic.

If the anxiety and panic attack you're experiencing have reached the point where they obviously interfere with your everyday life and schoolwork, you will need some type of professional help. If you have a school counselor - see her or him - they don't cost you anything.

Wish you all the best,

Nicole
