I got a sunburn. What I used to turn it into a tan, (No Peeling either) I used Aloe Vera and I mixed it in with Distrained White Vinegar or if you don;t hhave that type of vinegar i used Apple Cider Vinegar. Those ingredients and a warm/cold shower helped me to get a tan and I know I did because I was about the whitest person I knew. After the shower and Aloe Vera and vinegar I had no peeling and not aot of pain.

The best way for me is as follows:
I'll be out in the sun for a while, and when my skin starts to tingle I know I'm getting burnt. BEFORE I actually turn red, or feel really burnt (within an hour or two of being in the sun) I get in a warm bath or stand in the shower and keep turning the heat up every minute (til I can handle it) and wait until I start to sweat. You will know when you are sweating - if you're in the bath your face will sweat. If you're in the shower, just don't wet your face, and you'll be able to tell when you start to sweat.
For me, it brings the burn out fast. You know how you get feverish the night after a bad burn? well this happens within hours, the redness comes out, and you I don't really feel properly burnt, but the next day or two, I am tanned.
So I suppose my secret is bringing out the burn fast so my skin heals quicker. I don't use sunscreen, or lotions, because they make me peel, but if I don't get to warm water after I've been in the sun, I will burn badly.
Make sure you're only in the sun until you feel the skin tingle - no longer (for me it's about 30mins). Try a small amount of time every second or third day, and then build up the time you're out in the sun each time.
I also use rosehip oil on my face each night to avoid the premature aging that the sun brings.
Hope this helps!

This is the method I use and it turns my sunburn into a pretty decent tan every time.
1. Have a cool shower or bath (preferably a bath as the force of the water from the shower can make it worse if the sunburn is really bad) straight away.
2. Apply calamine lotion to the sunburned areas. This will reduce the pain and repair the skin.
3. Apply moisturiser, preferably one containing aloe vera- once in the morning, once at night and you can apply it in between those times if you feel you need to. This will help retain colour in your skin.
This works quite well for me, and I hope it does for you too :)

Take some vinegar in a spray bottle, take a cold shower to soothe the pain a bit. The spray the vinegar wherever it is burnt then just do some enduring of the smell. After about an hour or so, wash it off. Works like a charm, if not the first time then just repeat. :-D

That is actually really helpful, even tho I wasn't the one that asked the question. I got really badly burnt, and I've applied so much aloe vera and you can already tell it is turning slightly brown within a day :)

TAKING A HOT SHOWER TAKES THE BURNING PART AWAY. IT MAY STING OR BE A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE AT FIRST BUT IT WILL EASE OFF. PLUS IT'S BETTER TO ENDURE A LITTLE UNCOMFORT IN HOT SHOWER THAN TO IGNORE ANYTHING AND SUFFER FROM BURNING AND ITCHING!!! THEN APPLY ALOE VERA, AND AFTER IT DRIES USE A VERY GOOD MOISTURIZER. WEAR THIN CLOTHING SO IT DOESNT MAKE YOU GET HOT AND CAUSE IT TO STING. LAY IN JUST YOUR UNDER CLOTHES IS BEST TO KEEP CLOTHING FROM ABSORBING THE ALOE AND LOTION
