I would be very careful about the advice on this forum about how long Methadone stays in your system or shows up on  a drug test.  I failed a drug  test last year at a pain center for Methodone after testing positive 17 days out from last day taken.  In fact they said i lit up the test just as if i had taken it the day before.  Now I admit I'm quite heavy close to 230 and VERY OVERWEIGHT so that may be the reason i don't know but I was thrown out for first offense and I had  a legal RX for the methadone.  I'm getting ready to take another drug test on the 25th june and it will be 34 days since i last took methadone and I can tell you i'm pretty sure I'm going to fail again.

I have been in the Medical Field for 12 yrs & have seen A LOT of Drug test.  The Dr. or person ordering the Drug test has to tell them what they want to test for.  YES, they can specifically test for Methadone & even a trace will show, BUT, some test are senitive to show traces & some are set to only show over a certain amount.  It all depends on the place the tst was taken & what is ordered.

What bothers me the most is untruths about methadone! The reason and the only reason their is "Methadone Clinics" which make you take it orally in front of them is because it has an opiate antagonist, that removes the opiate "high" that one gets with Oxycodone,Hydrocodone and similar products! Most people who are Drug Addicts and use Methadone for the 1st couple times get nauseous! Then the only reason they would use it is to make an "Opiate withdrawal" less painful!(and stop using illicit subtances)
Methadone is actually one of the safer products for people with true disabilities and or injuries like Nerve Damage,Spinal Chord Injuries,Chronic Neuropathy's etc...(Ask Any Board Certified Internist)

Do u really think our Outdated Govt Drug Laws would let a Drug Addict ie Heroin Addict use another substance to get high?

Get Real!

PS I know this didn't really answer the underlying question, but if your taking Methadone legally from a clinic or by prescription from a MD, theirs no employer that would not hire you, if you were able bodied, and not stoned on illicit drugs! And of course were able to do the job effectively!

SO the ? is a mute point unless your going through withdrawal at your interview!(Then stay home until it passes)!

IT CUT TAKE FROM 1 TO 3 WEEKS

I started MMT in Aug/2011. went up as high as 70mg/day.  was there for about a month before I did a titration of 10mg/week until I got to 40mg.  Stayed at the 40mg dose for 2 weeks and then jumped ship at the beginning of Jan 2012.  I took a 10 panel test at 14 days off the methadone (just a few days ago) and still tested positive.  I'm 6'1" and weigh about 220lbs.  Contrary to popular belief, methadone DOES NOT show on a drug test as an opiate.  The 10 panel I took had a panel for opiates, oxycodone and methadone.  The only positive I had was on the methadone panel.

Hope this helps!!

Cheers!!

Hi again, I last posted as methisthedevil. (I became a registered user.) Anyways, I just gave myself another 10 panel test today.  I'm at day 23 off methadone and I finally tested negative on the test for methadone.  I would caution everyone out there that you should give yourself at least three weeks before doing a urine test if you were a regular methadone user.  I was even told by the pharmacist dispensing my perscription that methadone would clear your system in 5 days.  Wow was he wrong!! I'm just happy that the methadone has cleared my system.  I have a physical and drug test tomorrow for a job...that sh*t cleared just in the nick of time!!

I wish everyone who is off or wants to get off methadone all the best!!

Cheers!

I have a two part question- i have taken methadone 10mg, sometimes just a half of one over the course of the last four months. Though since Wed. til today I have taken about 110mgs/120mgs. I have to go to a drug assessment in just 7 days, what are the chances of it not showing up? and what are the test they are most likely to use?

Thanks

She's right. They have to be looking for methadone to test you for it because it has a test all on it's own. Trust me i know. DA here thought it showed p as an opiate and the dr. knew i had been on lortab so i thought i was in the clear. My probation officer tested me for everything one month and the test is different from just opiates.

Methadone is not an opiate antagonist. I am prescribed methadone and percocet, both for pain, from the same doctor (obviously). When I take methadone after taking my percocets, it doesn't cancel out the effects of the percocet (oxycodone).

I have heard people say this before, but I have never heard it out of a doctor's mouth. In fact, my doctor at the pain clinic has said just the opposite, that methadone is not an antagonist of oxycodone or any other opiate.

I just thought I'd tell everyone the truth about this myth.
