Hi. I am keep "fighting" with my friend about one thing - she claims that warring sings of a stroke are totally different in men and women. I don't agree, but since sometimes I do have problems with breathing and sometimes I am out of my breath, she is telling me that this is a classical sing of stroke, but in women. First, I don't think so. I think that anyone can lose their breath and second, is it truw that signs and symptoms are different? How to identify early warning signs of a stroke in women? Post whatever you know...

Hey there. Your friend has a right - it is different in women and men. And you should definitely visit your doctor since you have those moments when you are losing your breath.  Now, lets go back to some of the symptoms. They usually are:

-  confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding,

 - numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body,

 - severe headache with no known cause

- you are out of your breath.

Those are the signs that you cannot ignore. Go and tell your doctor what exactly is going wrong with you.

I always believed that the main reason why I am losing my breath is because I am allergic to the dust since I was a little kid. That is why I never visited my doctor to find out is this because of the dust or some other problem. I really want to know why those symptoms are different in both, male and female? I really don't see any logic because I always believed that signs and symptoms for something such as hear attack are the same for everyone. But this is maybe because we are gentle half or whatever, right?

Hi there.

I totally agree with Eric D. That symptoms that he wrote are something that you just CAN’T ignore. Also, you should never wait more than five minutes to dial 911 if you experience even one of the signs that Eric mentioned. In your case, you should do it very soon because loosing your breath is not small thing. Remember, you could be having a stroke even if you’re not experiencing all of the symptoms. It has happened to my friend - she just had it without having any simple symptom. She told me just that she was feeling weird.

Hello there. I can tell you about this since my wife had heart attack. Many ladies don’t know that they are having a stroke, and although men and women share some risk factors for stroke - such as smoking, being sedentary and having high blood pressure, others are specific to women, the researchers explained. But statistic says that only 11 percent of women polled knew that pregnancy, lupus, migraine headaches, birth-control pills and hormone replacement therapy increase their stroke risk, the study found. The main warring sing in ladies is definitely sharp, but quick chest pain. I hope that this is helpful.
