Hydrocodone & Methadone

I was on methadone daily for 5 years, I was self employed and had no problems, never took more than was prescribed. I decided to go out in the world to work for a large company. (Guess What) Drug testing. So I had to stop taking Methadone, I had to much pride to ask for help Doctors or N/A I was so sick for about 6 weeks no sleep, no eating, running from both ends, I was told by my DR. that coming offof it was like having the flu. Thats BS. I suffered for SIX WEEKS I had SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, IF I WAS TOLD I HAD 1 YEAR TO LIVE I WOULD TAKE IT. BUT TAKING IT DAILY FOR PAIN NO WAY. YOU BETTER TAKE A LONG LOOK AT IT BEFORE STARTING METHADONE 

I take both hydrocodone & methadone both 10 mgs each.methadone 3 times aday and hydrocodone twice aday. I think they work better taking them together.my doctor said that he is not worried about me getting hooked as long has he keeps me on them under a year.

Hydrocodone is an opiate analgesic short acting and Methadone is a opioid analgesic long acting. Hydrocodone is a scheduled III and is mixed with either Tylenol or Ibuprofen people say it's less addicting but from experience I have became addicted to it. I am a veteran and basically got on it from a back injury I sustained when I was active. After being on it for years my body got dependent on it and I was "addicted" my doctor left and years of being on it and I was switched to another doctor who didn't like to prescribe narcotics so basically I was SOL they tried to taper me off but I could not stand the withdrawals and the VA I go to did not want to help so basically I had to go to a Methadone Clinic I've been on it for 3 months now I started on 15mg and went up to 60 mg they both help for pain and they both are addictive Methadone is more physically than mentally because you have to take it to avoid withdrawals but it lasts a long time so you could take one dose and miss one dose and not go into withdrawals until the 4th day with no dosing and the w/d's are bad. My advice to anyone who is taking hydrocodone is that it does give you Euphoria and a boast of energy for me anyways and it does get addictive over time I don't care what anyone says you have to take 1-2 every 4-6 hours all those pills. Methadone is good for pain at low doses if you take high doses like I do it just blocks you from getting Euphoria off other drugs and for me I like it because I'm not worried about popping pill after pill and one dose lasts me 24 hours. Both are addictive Methadone is scheduled II and Hydrocodone is a scheduled III narcotics are narcotics you will get dependent on them I would stick with Hydrocodone if you know your doctor is not going to leave you and I hear the withdrawals are less than with Methadone because methadone is stored in your tissues and liver takes longer for your body to rid of it which in turn means you have to slowly taper off it. My advice Hydrocodone but if you have severe pain Methadone I don't have insurance and the VA here is not good so I had to go on Methadone if I had a choice I'd stay on the Hydro's but I couldn't because of a doctor change and him trying to taper me off it after being on it for 6 years.

I urge erery one to not go on methadone. So addictive

I URGE ANY ONE THINKING OF GOING ON METHADONE TO NOT DO IT NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DOCTOR SAYS.

I detoed off Methadone 2 times, and went down 2mg a week, and when I got down to 20mg from 50mg for a few years, I went down 1 mg. a week, and then went real slow for the last few Mg.  I did not feel bad at all.  People dont deto the right way and tell of horror stories.  Just go slow at the end, and maybe take some benzos for a couple weeks, and it is totally painless.  I was told so many horror stories and it is all in your head.  Take your time getting off of it, and you will not have a hard time.  Most people I know that did not rush their deto had no problems, or no serious problems.  If I can do it then so can you.  just dont rush to get off it.  Good Luc

I just read what you wrote and I noticed after I read it happened to you a year ago and I wondered if you were better? I sure hope so. AndI have had similar stuff happen to me. Please let me know if the zoloft helped you? ?? Please and God Bless I hope you are feeling better.

MethAdone is stronger and longer lasting, but gives you a less dopey feeling or "high"

Stay away from Methadone because you will need more and more as time goes on and Methadone is very hard on the bones and teeth. If your using this for pain stay with the hydrocodone. If you get addicted to Methadone you will pay a price of 10 fold compaired to hydrocodone trying to quit. Methadone isn't that good for pain as hydrocodone is made to kill pain. Trust me when I say stay away from Methadone no matter what the Dr. says you will regret it. I have over 40 years in the pain killer using and I can assure you that Hydro works better for pain than Meth does.

Methodone is the best relief. Take the least amount and don't fight it think of it as a blood pressure pill and move on you can function work etc. Normally, just slowly lower the doesage over time to the minimum of 2-5 mg a day. Than start skipping 1 day than two slowly. No matter what YOU WILL HAVE SOME WITHDRAWALS and remember if you cheat it is the same as starting over and you will get beaten by the devil!! Or at least think you were. This is just what worked for me and a few friends. Everyone is different but don't pressure yourself into relapse it happens way to often self fulfilling prophecy. Will happen be careful ask for help and advice read everything and long term meds take time sort term can be stopped cold turkey very harsh for a week but passes quickly. But relapse can happen easily so those out phone numbers don't get bored make plans have someone to remind you of the nasty things it invokes. Talk it out its much easier with a positive attitude. Because narcotics are designed to make you depressed and shameful, to relapse and stay hooked. When in reality life is just a few days or weeks away to a normal somewhat normal life and then a normal life when you come terms with the X problem and enjoy life again. Tell yourself that nothing is going to control you or ruin you life family etc. Be angry against it. This can help too. With all the emotions you WILL go through use them to your advantage! To find your quality of life again. What a dream. This person knows nothing of chronic pain and inability. Just because you take pain meds that are proscribed to you doesn't make a person an addict. We're trying to keep on living life for our family. The dependency of one suffering in constant struggle is not the same as chasing a high.
