Hey, just about everyone on my mom's side of the family had hyperthyroidism with all of the symptoms. Now I have the symptoms of hyperthyroidism too and my mom suspected that I had it, but we went to the doctor and tested my blood for hyperthyroidism and i came back negative. This would normally be good, except now my symptoms can't be cured. The only one I really worry about is the excessively sweaty hands at all times. I am 13 now and whenever with girls, it's really embarrassing that whenever I touch one of them, or give simple high fives and hugs my hands are coated in sweat. Now people may say this is normal to sweat in your hands when you get nervous but it's not just when i get nervous, it's ALL the time. I have to use drysol and prescription medicines and nothing has worked for me. So the real question here is: Can hyperthyroidism develop in someone starting later in life rather than u being born with it, and if you don't you never will?

Hi there,
all my sibliings were diagnosed between 15-25 with hyperthyroidism, i had some of the symptoms but all blood test came up negative.
after some major stress's when i was 37 did it finally show up in my blood tests that I had hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease).
dont worry yours is not showing up. it sure beats taking tablets to control it.
in the last 3 years i've taken over 6000 "PTU" tablets. glad i havent been taking them for the last 15+ years.
