I am 29 years old have 3 awsome kids and pretty great husband . i am not sure that i ever want to have another child but with my kids being 10,8,6 i really dont know yet . have been having really heavy bleeding and clotting and anemia has kicked in as well .I had a d&c 2 months ago that was suppose to help stop the clotting and the heavy flow and it did for about a month but now i am starting to clot agian and my flow has been getting really heavy again.the doctor told me that i have 3 options an IUD that isnt garunteed to stop my period but might. an endometrial ablation which has a high risk of stopping me from having kids and only usually holds out a little while or a hysterectomy(partial i think). I am really scared i am going to regret any of the options and i am not sure how to decide . any advice or opions would be welcome .
thanks in advance

I am 36 and was given the same options. I will not use the IUD simply because any and all birth control via hormone methods always cause me extra symptons and rarely do anything for my heavy periods. The list of 'possible but not likely' symptoms that are on the poster in the doctors office... I get them all. Anyway I went to talk to a specialist about endometrial ablation... which they used to do on just about anyone having problems... the specialist told me he didn't want to do that for me because of my age. He's finding that the younger you are, the less likely you will have any kind of lasting results that you are happy with. He said that if I was 45 he would consider it. So, I asked him about partial vaginal hysterectomy... and he said it might be an option for me. So I discussed it with my family dr, did some research on the internet and decided that was the best way. I don't want more kids, it will stop bleeding altogether 100% effective, and if they leave my ovaries in place I won't go into early menopause and have to take more hormones. There are risks, it is a huge surgery but given my medical history and needs, I think this is the best option, I'm really nervous, but I think I will be happy when it's over.
If you still want more kids, I would say give the IUD a try... the nice thing about it is if you don't like it, it can be taken out at any time by your doctor! I've heard that the likelyhood of it causing sterility is pretty small.
