I got the IUD about a two years ago and about six months ago i started to notice that i had a strong vaginal odor. It gets alog worse after i have intercourse, it smells like "sardines" and it lasts for about a week.

Hello. There are several reasons for this, there are so many things that vaginal smell causes, for example - you had unprotected intercourse and maybe you have some infection. That is the most common reason. Anyway, if you haven't met with this before, you really should see your gynecologist and please, don't do anything alone to heal this. My good friend did a really stupid thing - she was using deodorants and some strong soaps, even the perfume sprays to kill that smell. It was a huge mistake, because you really shouldn't put anything like this near your vagina because it can upset the balance of good bacteria that are normally found in your vagina. You can make everything worse.

That is called bacterial Vaginosis. Even if it is treated the BV will return and or you may get a Yeast infection in its place. the creams does not work and mixing sperm with the bacteria makes it worse. Its like walking around smelling like a trash can, or sewer. I actually have had it for four years and battled with the BV and YI for 11/2 years now and My appointment for removal is set for a week from now. I dealt with doctors encouraging me not to for to long... The Mirena is un healthy and I am not a doctor but I recommend that you get it removed and seek a new form of BC.
