It was very comforting to find a group of people all experiencing the same issue. I, too, had an ER experience as well as a doctor that did ECG, etc. and everybody said nothing was wrong, you have anxiety, blah blah. I happen to be prehypertensive, which compounds how alarming the pronounced heart beat is. I have had acute heart beat on and off for several weeks now. I recently had it for the last 7 days straight. Everybody was correct here: drink lots of water, change your diet, no coffee, etc. I have the added issue of having been a heavy drinker and occasional smoker (all this with a family history of hypertension--wow, have I been stupid). I cut all that out for the last few weeks.
This morning I woke up for the first time not "hearing" the dreaded pounding heart beat. Part of my diet change is I have overloaded on magnesium and potassium rich foods such as dried herbs, almonds, spinach and collards, sweet potatoes, and lots of fiber, too. Previous posters that said it's your body telling you to change things . . . this is 100% true.

I am 65 and when I was 13 I accidentally drank some water that had some rust in it. I didn't think much about it at the time but within a day or so my heart started beating very fast. I was taken to one Dr that said I would soon die to my parents he thought I was a heavy smoker at 13. I didn't smoke at all but was around people that smoked. My parents eliminated any possible cause and after a month lying in bed my mother sought the advice of a heart specialist. The specialist told her that the electrical impulse my heart normally emitted was weak and a second impulse kicked in making what appeared to be a rapid heart beat. I got out of bed expecting to die but after a half mile of walking my heart returned to a normal rhythm. I have exercised sporadically since and was told at 55 I had high blood pressure. I started walking and bike riding and now my blood pressure is back to normal. Take the very minimum when it comes to meds and try natural alternatives if possible. See a nutritionist they are very helpful.

Check on the amount of ARSENIC you've been eating and drinking. The worst culprit with highest levels of arsenic is RICE.
Brown rice having even higher levels than white rice! Brown rice syrup is used to sweeten a lot of 'energy bars'; rice milk, rice ice cream substitute, rice cereals, and just plain servings of rice; all taken together can CAUSE a lot of heart problems, including atherolschlorosis.

Have you heard about Mitral valve prolapse? I just learned about it today and all these symptoms are what was mentioned. I have a very STRONGE pulse in my abdomen. It sometimes shakes the bed. I also have an irregular heartbeat, that usually gets worse with caffeine, but lately without caffeine I experience it. About 6 months ago, I was asked by the ECG tech, after an ECG, if I am an athlete- Im not. This question was because my ECG was abnormal and showed an enlarged left ventricle of my heart. This often happens with athletes because their heart is pumping so much blood, but for a regular person it is a sign that their is an issue with the valve. When I said I wasnt an athlete, my doctor should have looked into this more. I'm going back to the dr. tomorrow to have them listen specifically to my heart for symptoms of MVP. It is common and not a problem if its a mild case, but it is important to have it diagnosed so it can be watched. or addressed if it is a severe case. Hoping for the best!

I have similar symptoms and had it tested and described as PVC, Premature ventricular contractions, when the heart has irregular beats and fills too much blood as it waits too long to expel it . I am wakened at night by my heart pounding in my pillow and hate to sleep on my side because of it. I take Atenolol to calm the heart, which works a bit. I think it helps when I drink water, as I don't drink nearly enough liquid, and I imagine my blood is getting too thick, but that's probably not true, only feels like it! So far I live a very normal life during the day only aware of it when I lie down at night. I dont think it's dangerous, only uncomfortable. But get it checked out. The body is such a delicate machine, it's best to fine tune it when ever you get the chance!

Couple of things. Especially if you dont have insurance. If its high blood pressure related, high blood pressure meds are some cheapest on the market. The most basic is HTCZ (or something like that, dont have the bottle with me). My local pharmacy sells it for $4 for 1 month supply or $12 for a 90 day supply. So yhats realistically the least oc your concerns.
Id also suggest finding a local free or cheap clinic. They are around everywhere if you look. Lots of times they are after hours around 6pmish that doctors donate their time at as well as younger interns to get some patient reps. But regardless of that, this is a vety inexpensive option.

Your veins circulate blood to all tissues in your body. If they have been dilated by the supplement, it is only natural that you'll feel your heartbeats more than when your veins carried less blood to your tissues. Maybe you should think of stopping taking those supplements?

A heavy and consistent heart-beat is a kind of palpitation usually caused by the overstimulation of the Vagus Nerve. This condition is not dangerous, as your heart is not truly beating harder. The overstimulated nerves are simply FEELING your pulse more intensely. This can be caused by anxiety or stress (source: I have an anxiety disorder, and experience these symptoms daily)
IF the palpitations are accompanied by dizziness, difficulty breathing, perceived pressure on chest, numbness or tingling, seek medical help immediately! This could be a sign of a very dangerous condition.
