Amazing I have the symptoms with my right knee. It just happened all of a sudden one day. I don't understand. I didn't injury it or do anything to it. Could it be old age?

I am a yoga teacher as well and have the same problem, usually during cat/cow or child's pose. It doesn't bother me any other time. I have no idea what is.

I had this problem 2years ago and had been to Doctor's who said it was a pulled tendon but the symptoms didn't add up. Eventually got sent for physio who done various checks and exercises and felt like a hypochondriac as no matter what way she bent my knee it wasn't sore. Each night the left knee would be hot to touch. At the end of my physio a different nurse explained about the kneecap and the cartrilage moving when you get older and it can pinch on nerves when in kneeling position. Mind at ease after that. I am 47 and just try to keep my knee active but it still gets a bit weak if I do anything strenuous and it becomes hot just in evening when it is resting. Basically wear and tear

You figured it out, but is there anything you can do to make it go away? I have this same problem.

I'm 17 I have no known knee injuries that I know of and every once in a while I get the same sensation but it fades within seconds. I know it has something to do with when you stretch your skin, I just can't pin point why it happens. Unlike most of you I get it on the back of my knee. It's not a big inconvenience but I find it odd.

I would like to add that I have that same carpet burn feeling when I kneel down on my left knee the burning is in the outer side away from the center of my body. Quite annoying but from what I am reading it is nerve damage which will probably go away. What I am done studying for finals I will run again let's see if it goes away.

11 pages of everyone having the exact same symptom, with no reason, no treatment, and cure? I was not expecting to find this. At least we all know we're not crazy. There really is something to this!

It just started in my knee two days ago. I leaned over my bed to grab something from the middle of the mattress and BAM! This intense, painful burning sensation occurred. I lifted my pant leg half expecting to see one of those "need a bandaid and a heals-all booboos mommy kiss" abrasions we all suffered hundreds of during our childhood. It was not even red. "Hm, that's weird," I thought, and went on about my day. That is, until I sat down.

I sit kinda on my hip/side of my butt bc I have a condition that makes it painful to sit straight on for too long. I went to bend my knee like I've done a million times and holy wow, there is was again! Then my dogs were on the couch, and I squatted down to love on them, and I couldn't stay down b/c the pain was too intense.

Today, I drove and it was just very faintly there. I felt around and found a very, teeny, barely-there soft nodule in the area (lateral knee) of the burning. It's so insignificant, I'm chalking it up to it likely being there all my life, and if not, my body will eat it eventually. It's smaller than an air soft bb so I'm doubting very much it being the source of this burning/tearing sensation.

After reading many of these stories, comnents, udeas, etc, from everyone here, I've decided to try OTC cortisone cream. Someone mentioned a shot "to calm the nerve." That person was likely referring cortisone shots, which hurt like a mofo, but are very effective. It makes sense that the shot would work. Instead of going to the doctor though, I'm just going to try good ol' cortisone cream for a bit and see how that works out. It might take longer, but it should work alright, or at least help somewhat. (Using it at night will help to prevent it from being rubbed off by clothing and will prevent grease stains on pant legs.)

I'll try to remember to post an update if it works out so maybe the next person can have something to try, too. Good luck, Everyone!

I attribute my pain to age, I'm 47... I also do a lot of martial arts. So at first, I thought it was nerve damage... I've felt the burning sensation along my outer right leg below the knee, when drying off after a shower. I felt it just below my right knew to the lower outside when kneeling down. Even felt it on my outer left big toe when kicking... After a while the pain goes away in these areas...

Thank you actually, this kind if helped me. I tried poking around like you said and certain spot does in fact send a weird jolt to the part of my leg that hurts when kneeling.

I think it is an irritated nerve, but I don't really know how to fix it. Hopefully someone does!

Your description fit symptoms perfectly. I only noticed it a few weeks ago when I knelt down to play with my 2 year old grandson. The burning sensation came on quickly and came out of nowhere. It quickly dissipated as soon as I stood up. I can create the pain simply by pressing on the tendon to the right and just below the knee cap.
