you might be on to something. I commute 2 hours a day, 20 days a month. i believe my right knee is propped up against console when i drive in a "comfortable" position. I may have done the same thing you did. I will test it and see if i do it automatically. it may be nerve damage. it comes and goes. I noticed it is present after I wake up from bed. If my leg is "asleep", ill have the pain that day.. other days no pain with kneeling. strange.

What you states ia exactly the same as what I am feeling. I knelt on my desk to try and retrieve my phone from behind it and a couple of inches below my left knee toward the outside below the skin, I felt an intese burnning sensation as if I were being stabbes with a soldering iron. After repositioning, the pain leaves about 5 seconds later but the skin in the area ia numb. Sometimes I get an itch in that same spot under the skin but cannot get to it because its under the skin and I can feel my scratching. Did you ever find a way to solve thia problem? I would greatly benefit from the info if you did.

Has it gone away on it's own yet?

I have the same problem and it has gotten worse over the last couple months. It used to happen just when I squatted or knelt down but now it happens with almost any movement of my legs. It's on both sides. Feels like scalding water running from my knee down into my calf and sometimes up into my thigh. No swelling or redness on the outside. I went to an ortho today and he just said it was early osteoarthritis but that doesn't seem right to me.

This is crazy, all these people with the same thing, including me, and no answer?????????
What is going on? burning pain like no other, NOT IN THE KNEE, just below, 1" and on outer side of shin, just under the skin. no bump, no redness, feels like getting and indian arm burn when was a kid. When you twist the skin of the arm with both hands but in opposite directions.

Hey guess what me too. On my right knee just below the knee cap. When I bend to climb or move over an object I feel it briefly. No other symptoms. I am going to guess its some type of tissue damage.. But that is assumption

I had and have this from time to time. It may not work for everyone but I star rubbing on the edges of the burning area and gradually work inward. It always removes the pain issue. It took a few times / days the first time I had it. I rub fairly quickly moving in slowly. I think it must overwhelm the nerve endings or something. Hope it helps others.

I failed to indicate one thing. I’m guessing this is a form of shingles. I get that from time to time. Carpet burn hot nerve like pain. Smooth quick rubbing from outer edge moving inward as the pain subsides under where you rub.

This helped. I foam rolled by IT Band and massaged the area in the knee where it burned and it stopped

Same symptoms as all of you. Similarly, I started exercising again last week, which is when it started about 3 days ago. I luckily found this group chat here and one of the people was a 28 year old runner who referenced the IT Band. Fortunately I have a foam roller and some sun breeze essential oil. I put pressure on the area just below the knee cap and to the right ( of my right knee ) and with enough pressure by hand was able to replicate the pain. I then messaged it for about 15 minutes with the oil, then I foam rolled my IT Band near the outer, mid-thigh area and found immediate relief. I'll continue this routine and start doing more stretching and foam rolling before and after workouts. Hope this helps, it helped me and removed that terrible carpet burning sensation.

Still no answers? I’m having the same thing. It started out of the blue when I bent my knee to kneel on a chair. It is my left knee. It feels like my skin is going to rip open and stings. It only happens when my knee is bent and if I bend my knee and touch around the top of my knee cap I get a sharp stabbing/stinging pain.
