For me it was a rug burn type sensation anytime I got into bed. The problem has since gone away. Lasted about 2-3 months. One of the posts suggested that it might be caused by rubbing my knee up against the console on the vehicle I drove. At first I dismissed it. However, I did rest it on the console far more than I realized. I now place a small pillow where I rest my knee to distribute the pressure. In my case, I think it was a damaged nerve caused by constant gentle rubbing as I drove. Once I relieved that, then, in time, the sensation went away.
I also have high blood sugar which means nerves are more sensitive to damage. I have also brought my blood sugar under control via a change in diet and exercise. That may also help relieve the systems. I encourage anyone with this symptom to make sure they don't have high blood sugar and if you do take steps to control it before other more serious nerve damage occurs.

I did it to my knee by landing on that spot when getting into bed. Took about 4 months to get better.
A year on did the other knee by rolling on it to get out of bed. Mattress is on the floor because our dog has bad knees.

I have the exact same thing on my left knee. Does not affect my workouts or running but when I hit a certain spot when kneeling on floor or getting into bed...I get burning sensation on lower portion of outside my kneecap. Had X-rays.....no tears, no bruising, and no conclusions. So strange!

I just tried this laying here in bed and sure enough, feels like a shock when you find the correct spot on the cap.

I suffered from a stinging, burning knee pain for several months. It continued to get slowly worse in both knees. I started taking an Omega 369 supplement with added Borage oil. I didn't take it long and I was totally surprised when my knee pain was suddenly gone. I didn't notice it at first until I was kneeling one day and suddenly realized I was without pain. Borage oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. I haven't had any pain in nearly a year.

Please read this!!!!!.....I had tremendous burning searing pain to left of left knee, and to the right of my right knee. Absolutely awful....here is your treatment, ready? ...
Omega 3-6-9 ...yes, essentially fish oil, flax and borage oil. My daughter is a Naturopath; she told me this is also one of the best anti-inflammatories there it. The best part is with 24 hours, pain was mostly gone and 48-72 hours completely gone!!! I'm am stunned; read no further; seriously

I have EXACTLY the same issue! The burning is just below my knee and to the side, only when I kneel, otherwise I wouldn't know it burns. Sometimes it even feels like there's fluid. If I push on it, it feels a bit like a bruise, I'll keep looking too.
