I quit smoking 2 months ago, now i hack up thick brown and sometimes red pleghm in the morning and a little through out the day, I have seasonal allergies to pollen and some grass types, I don't think I'm fighting a infection and I got a recent chest x ray couple weeks ago and nothing was found, I'm only 20 and I'm very healthy when it comes to what I eat and drink, so I doubt I'm fighting anything, can someone please give me some advice?

There is something in cigarette smoke that acts as a cough suppressant so it is normal to begin coughing after quitting. I think you may have just irritated your throat by coughing enough to cause some blood to surface. You said you had a recent chest x-ray. Did you mention this to your doctor?

I quit smoking 27 years ago so I can't tell you too much about how long it took for the cough to go away but it was longer than I expected. The desire for the nicotine went away in a few days but the hand that kept reaching into my shirt pocket took longer to retrain. I felt like the character in Dr. Strangelove.

Sorry let me correct myself, I don't have a cough at all, what I mean by "hack" is to spit sort of say, its in my sinuses I think, I kinda of snort it out I guess you can say, that's why I think my allergies play a role in why this is happening, but it doesn't make since to me why its brown and sometimes red, but thanks for your advise, maybe I should be more clear about what my problem is.
