I have the same issue - and have been googling it every few months to see if anyone has an answer. (Yes I've been to the doctor, a few of them actually, and they all just think I'm nuts) I am Coeliac, lactose intolerant and have an allergy to preservative 220 (found in wine) I noticed I was getting my smoke smell after going out to a pub or club, and blamed cigarette smoke in the air. Then when my face started blowing up like a balloon after drinking wine - I realised it probably had more to do with what I was drinking - as my diet is Paleo - all home made and preservative free. Except - bacon. I can't afford nitrate free bacon so I get a sugar free supermarket brand which still has nitrates in it. I'm wondering if it's an allergy to this tha is causing the smell. I still describe it as 'my smoke smell' but when I think about it, it's similar to overcooked bacon!

Michelle...i have no allergies at all to any foods. I still think this happened to me when i hit my head 12 years ago although I now smell smoke every day at certain times and it happens a lot when I am stressed. The good news is, after 12 years I am still alive, so it is not life threatening.

I have been smelling cigarette smoke for a few months in the living room and bedroom ,we do not smoke ,I never smelled it before a few months ago..I am on synthroid for thyroid and have been for 25 years and I also take reactin nearly every day. When I smell smoke my eyes burn. I do get sinus infections and seem to have one now .The smoke seems to be fairly constant. in the living room. Sporadic in the bedroom>My husband said once that he could smell smoke but only once. I was beginning to think that maybe my deceased father was with me ,it smells like he did. I am going to talk to the doctor in a few days.

OMG! I have been spelling smoke for at least 4 months now and I or anyone in my family doesn't smoke. It wakes me up at night and its extremely annoying. I am constantly asking those around me if they can smell it too, but no one else ever does. Now I am worried that it can be something serious.

Thank goodness I`m "normal". Well, other people smell the impossible as I do. For the past 3 years I have been smelling cut new wood. Most noticeable when I`m home and relatively relaxed. The smell once started comes everywhere with me. In the bedroom I have a fan blowing directly onto my face. I still smell the wood. This can go on for days or weeks, then it goes away for any length of time, it varies. I have mentioned it to my GP in the past, who is utterly bewildered. To be honest I have learned to live with it (not that I can change it),n it`s annoying but I haven`t been able to get rid.
However recently I have had the smell of cigarette smoke, along with the smell of an ashtray full of cigarettes and ash. This time it has continued for 3 weeks. It has disappeared for an hour or two on 3 occasions. It went away and was replaced with the smell of new wood 2 days ago. I went to bed, it`s difficult to sleep with the smell, I can`t breathe, I cough, but it`s a throaty cough. I have to blow my nose etc. It can`t be an allergy because on "normal" days I don`t cough or have a blocked nose. I`m now back with the horrible stale cigarette smell. It is so frustrating, I keep looking for answers but come up with nothing. Maybe it`s a deficiency in something? But the recent change of smell has now made me totally confused even more. Can anyone help/advise please?

I have been experiencing a sharp pungent cigarette smoke smell and I'm starting to become concerned. I have asked my husband if he smells it and his reply is always 'no'. It seems to follow me almost everywhere - my home, office, and when I'm out in general. There are a few times when I actually DON'T smell it. When that happens, I always notice it and feel relieved. If it doesn't go away, I will go to an ENT to get checked out.
