I have had a cigarette smell for a long time now, in the beginning it was every once in a while and now up to this point it is constant and I am starting to feel like I am loosing my sanity. I just wan't to have my normal sense of smell back. This cigarette ordor is so strong, it is like sitting in a bar pre-cigarette ban, it burns my eyes and throat and gives me a headache. I have recently found out by accident, that when I take IBprofen for the headache I get from this ordor, it also takes away the odor but comes back after the IBprofen has worn off. SHould I be scared because IBprofen reduced inflammation in the body to relieve the pain, so what does it tell me when it is not only getting rid of my headache but also getting rid of the smell? I see my natropath tomorrow and hopefully she will refer me to get some type of brain scan.

I am a Registered Nurse in Public Health. You are not alone, recently I have been smelling cigarette or tobacco smoke occasionaly, even in the nights. there is no one in my house that smokes and I live in a house not an apartment building. I am planning to go and see an ENT because my doctor seems to think that I am experiencing something that is foreign whenI know it could ne serious from a health professional point of view.

I've been ill for four months with bronchial pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma.  Just getting better now.  For the last two weeks or so, I smell smoke at home.  I'll just be sitting and I swear there's a cigarette nearby or something.  No one here smokes, I have pets, but never had this happen before.  As a matter of fact, I smell it now as I write this.  So, based on others' posts, I'm thinking it's because of nasal passages.  Still having a little trouble breathing, having to clear my throat and stuff.  I'll still mention it to my doctor when I see her, though.

My smoky smell started 2 weeks ago.blue skies are ahead and a better job is on the horizon. I am a very healthy and happy individual who just had a yearly check up and mammo in December. All things are normal. My olfactory detects smoky or frying smells..and we do not fry foods either! I can smell it through my perfume or body spray. I have no headaches or health problems, and I take a multivitamin and calcium supplement as designed for women my age (56). I will check back with you guys soon!

OMG I thought I was going nuts!!! I have been smelling cigarette smoke in my apartment for a week now. It is so strong it makes me sick. I am a non smoker of 10 years and my apartment complex only allows smoking outside. I would understand if my neighbor was standing outside smoking and the smell came into my place, but as strong as this is they would have to probably be smoking the whole pack and once. I only smell it when I am home though. I discussed this with my neighbors and they told me they only smoke in the back yard. They are not even home during the day and the smell is just as strong then. I am currently sick and was just at the doctor yesterday and mentioned that the smell of cigarette smoke is making me sick and they didn't seem to be concerned about that? I have a severe sore throat and had a culture done on that, but no ear infection and I don't seem to have a sinus infection. Grrrr, this can be so horrible. My eyes burns, and it makes my chest feel like c**p. I'm glad I found this discussion because I have another doctor appt on Monday and I am going to insist they help me find out what is causing this. Right now as I am typing I feel like I am in a room with 50 smokers and no open windows :'(

Well, I can rest reasonably assured

it's not some short in the house's wiring or that my computer is going to catch fire! I, too, take Claritin and thyroid meds. Maybe it's the combination of the two. The thing most of us seem to have in common are allergies and/or sinusitits. Anyone else also have bouts of tinitis?

I too am smelling smoke for months now. It is to the point i want to vomit at times. I do not smoke nor take any medications for anything. I do not have sinus issues either.  I put Vicks vapor rub under my nose and it helps for awhile. I have no idea why it comes and goes. It may go a away for a day then back full fledged. It has been for many months now.

I thought could it be my father whose smoking?  He's dead and I don't believe in ghosts so I googled it.  I was so glad to find all you here.  Now I won't feel so strange asking my doctor about it.  I am on Multiple Sclerosis medication.  Don't have allergy or sinus.

I started to experience the smelling smoke constently (and I do mean all of the time - it even caused me to lose sleep) after I started tking Relacore Extra (it's a mood elevator). I think the ingredience are causing it. Perhaps everyone is taking some of the ingredients thus smelling smoke all of the time when there is no smoke.

Just out of curiosity has anyone experiencing this smell had their home ever tested for RADON?

Experts (or so they call themselves) claim it is odorless and colorless, and shows no signs, however I was wondering if the radioactivity (RADON) in the air we breathe is perhaps mutating something in the nose nerves when breathing over a period of time? (hence why one posters re-breathing technique may work since RADON has such a short 1/2 life)

Two people in our household are experiencing this smoke smell and we just discovered our RADON level is 25x the EPA limit.

Just throwing that out there as an idea, trying to find a link or help anyone researching... instead of just saying 'we have it too!' maybe we can try to find a connection here...
