Hi all,
I'm new! I was excited to recently discover the ASMR community to finally feel the validation of, "Yes, this is a real thing that you're experiencing!"
So, I wouldn't say that I experience any physical responses outwardly, but my "sensitivity" is particular sounds, such as the various sounds that paper can make. When I hear the turning of a page, I am almost instantaneously relaxed. I remember back in high school sitting in the "Quiet Room" of the library where talking is not allowed and listening to the sounds of a man cutting out newspaper articles and gluing them onto construction paper. At the same time, others in the room were slowly thumbing through magazines. The combined sounds made me stop whatever I was studying and focus completely on those specific sounds. Again, nothing is triggered outwardly, but it just feels pleasurable in my brain, like it's being tickled and it's extremely relaxing. Other specific sounds that trigger this response in my brain are: feet or tires moving on gravel, light rustling of a small plastic bag, and very quiet typing. I am sure there are other sounds, but those come to mind quickly. I know other people that enjoy certain sounds, but they don't seem to have such a keen sensitivity towards them. Even today as an adult I will go to the "Quiet Room" of my public library just to relax to the sounds of people reading newspapers or magazines. Does this sound like ASMR even though I don't really experience an outward physical response?
