Hey everyone! I have too been suffering from the sore throat/base of tongue after taking XRs.. I will admit that I am not prescribed any Adderall, but as a college student sometimes it's neeeded.. the pain was very similar to tonsillitis, if anyone has suffered through that (I have 2x a year for the past 6 years.. not fun lol) I have found a little remedies that seem to help me:
1. Drink as much water as possible! The water seems to help with the pain, and makes swallowing easier.
2. Lysine HCL 500mg. Lysine is an amino acid that has many health benefits. I doctor told me about Lysine to help deal with tonsillitis pain, but I also see the same results when taking them after XRs. Just pop 2 (1000mg) when the pain is present. After a few minutes you should start to feel some relief. My doctor also told me there is not many risks associated with Lysine, so he said I can take it about every 3 hours the pain is present.
I hope this helps somebody!

I also take Aderall with problems with my esophagus and severe heartburn. Went to the Doctor and had to have an endoscope put down my throat. I was completely raw from back of the throat down to my stomach. Stopped taking it about 3 days ago and everything is feeling better. Definitely the Aderall...

I've been taking vyvanse for 2 months but I stopped because I can't stand how sore my tongue is and how I keep moving my jaw around. I was on 30mg then to 40. Can't wait for my tongue to feel normal again. Also in this short time I've had severe receding gum around one tooth and my gums are swollen in other places too. I take very good care of my teeth but the side effects aren't worth it. Also it did not curb my appetite

Lots of nice info there, Doc, but no help or explanation as to WHY Adderall is causing this specific issue of mouth pain, throat pain, and tongue-swelling!!!!

I take Adderall and once in a while I get a patch similar to geographic tongue. But unlike GT is very painful, only in one region of the tongue. From the tip to about 3/4 of inch further back. I also know that Adderall can cause people to continue moving their tongue or grinding teeth. My wife told me she has seen me numerous times take my tongue stick it out then clamp down with enough pressure then pull it back in. Ex: A sheet metal being put through two rollers to flatten and shape. I do taste blood. Is it possible that my teeth are scraping off the upper layer of tissue? It is swollen and firm to the touch if you use the pinch. It also has jagged white edges like a chunk of top tissue ripped off. Are there any remedies to soothe the discomfort.

I have tried many different types of amphetamines for my ADD and they all seem to have the same effect to a certain degree, sore tongue, sore mouth, etc. unfortunately it is part of the ADD solution. I chew gum and it seems to help quite a bit, specifically the teeth whitening kind because i also smoke. I also use Biotene mouth spray. Its a little expensive but it works wonders for the mouth

Totally!!! I am taking Adderall and I feel like my tongue is too big and it keeps rubbing on the back of my teeth which is irritating my tastebuds. I asked the doctor about this and they said it's not listed as a side effect but I have taken Adderall twice in the last 3 years for period of time and it doesn't go away until it's out of my system. I feel extra flemmy too. Constantly clearing my throat.

I have this problem. I notice its from sucking my tongue, clenching jaw. It will get better if you put some of the realized attention on relaxing the jaw. Im wondering if anyone found anything helpful like chewing gum or stretching. I think it might be related to anxiety. I notice little bumps on edge of tongue where my teeth rub. I also have a skin picking problem and similarly i find myself a bit anxious as its happening. Try to relax. The benefit far outweighs this and im hoping i can relieve it somehow. This is the only noticible symptoms i have so far. Any suggestions?

Is it prescribed by a doctor and given to you by a pharmacist? How much are you taking? If you're self-prescribing and dosing, you're a fool!

I am having this same problem. I have started grinding my teeth together and clenching my teeth and I don't even notice it half the time! I frequently get sores on the sides and tip of my tongue from constantly rubbing the back of my teeth with it. That also happens without me noticing until it's to late and I've got a sore mouth. One thing I noticed is that before I got the sores I had EXTREME dry mouth to the point where drinking anything but water made it so much worse. Because of the dry mouth (and little to no saliva production) that causes you to do things like friend your teeth and rub your gums etc. I've found a couple helpful tips just by trial and error. 1) if your mouth is extremely dry brushing your teeth again will provide relief for a few hours. 2) chew sugar free gum (sugar + little saliva to break it down is what causes tooth decay) I swear by sucking on starbursts and jolly ranchers (when I get sores though it sometimes burns) those types of candy make your mouth produce more saliva therefore taking the dry mouth away. 3) the more water, the better! It is the only drink that helps take some of my mouth pain away! 4) oil pulling: take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around everywhere in your mouth for approx 15 min, spit it out (be careful it can clog pipes) and then rinse your mouth with water and spit it out. Can be done 1-2 times a day! This also conveniently can help with tooth decay, gingivitis, tooth pain, etc. 5) swish warm salt water around in mouth, it might hurt if you have sores but it will reduce inflammation!
I hope this helps!
