I have a cold right now with a sore throat and coughing. I just used the mist spray as directed and it burned my throat so bad I was panicking. Now swallowing hurts even more and I feel worse.

Hello.

If you believe your symptoms are related to the use of Zicam or any other medication, it's important to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. They will be able to evaluate your condition and provide personalized advice based on your specific situation.

There are various reasons why you might develop sores on the roof of your mouth, including:

- Trauma: Accidentally biting the roof of your mouth, sharp foods, or hot foods can cause minor injuries leading to sores.
- Canker sores: These are small, shallow, painful ulcers that can develop on the roof of your mouth or other areas of the oral cavity. They are not contagious and usually heal within one to two weeks.
- Viral infections: Certain viral infections, such as herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), can cause sores or blisters in the mouth or on the roof of the mouth.

To treat the sores, you can try the following general measures, but it's best to consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation:

Avoid irritating foods: Spicy, acidic, or rough foods can further irritate the sores, so it's advisable to avoid them until the sores heal.

Maintain oral hygiene: Gently brush your teeth and rinse your mouth with a mild, alcohol-free mouthwash or warm saltwater solution to keep the area clean.

Over-the-counter remedies: There are various over-the-counter oral gels or creams containing ingredients like benzocaine or hydrogen peroxide that may help relieve pain and promote healing. Follow the instructions on the product and consult a pharmacist if needed.

Avoid tobacco and alcohol: These substances can irritate the sores and delay the healing process.

Manage discomfort: Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help alleviate pain and inflammation. Follow the instructions on the packaging and consult a pharmacist or healthcare professional if you have any concerns.

I’m having that problem now. Did your doctor confirm that it could have been the Zicam causing the sore on the roof of your mouth?
