Thank god I am not...I started experiencing these excrutiating pains a few years ago...now every couple of months and just about an hour ago was screaming bloody murder as I feel I am going to pass out from the pain, I have in the past actually blacked out for a few seconds. My husband rubs my thighs and as someone else stated I'm not sure which pain is worse at the time..I just have to ride it out. I'm not a physically fit person, have managed type 2 diabetes and I just realized I did consume some extra sugary food earlier. Kidney stones? Never thought of it....caffeine? Could be....god the pain is debilitating!

Inner thigh cramps are triggered by a nerve compression in the lower back. The back may not be painful, but the pain radiating into the thighs can put the fear of God into one.
Be careful of the positions that set off these attacks. When they hit, lay face down on the floor on your stomach with TWO pillows under your pelvic area. Sleeping in this position helps night cramps in the legs.
I have changed the way I sit when watching a movie, and I try to stretch my lower back twice a day.
Strengthening your core muscles will help. Valium is a muscle relaxant, and if you suffer from these often, you may want to keep some in your cabinet.

I did a search for quinine pills after I began getting the excruciating cramps in my inner thighs. Here is the link where I got mine. They came quickly - I bought several bottles just in case these get taken off the market. Also after quinine was taken off the market my doctor suggest getting tonic water that contains quinine (it will say so on the bottle). About a half to 3/4 cup helps. The taste is not bad and becomes less so as you take more of it. I find just going ahead and drinking some before bedtime helps to keep the cramps from happening. It had been several weeks since I had them but the last two nights have been miserable... last night I had repeated attacks off and on for about four hours!! So I guess I will start back taking them as a preventative. Below is the link to where I order from:

I am 70 and have had these cramps for some time I have also found that just before it hits me it feels like ice running through my veins if I get the sensation sometimes I can beat it by jumping up and walking until the icy sensation goes but sometimes I am not quick enough then I have to get my husband to walk me it is the only way I can manage to get rid of the cramp and it only takes me about 5mins. I am wondering if it has something to do with my feet as I have some nerve damage and it feels like my feet are wrapped in glad wrap all the time and the numbness goes half way up my legs this condition started in the left leg and then went to the right leg I have had the circulation tested in my legs and it is fine

I have been getting inner thight cramps for some time now ... i am now 39 yr old male ,i get them so bad that my leg bends itself back just like you are kneeing down . I understand what everyone is talking about , the pain . the last few i have had have happened at the movies with my son . i have to get up a try and walk out while the movie is still playing . which is not an easy thing to do as we all know , even more so cause he likes to sit in the back in the middle , and we have to walk down stairs to get out . the pain goes from my groin area sometimes right down into my anlke, last night was the worse it happened in both legs at the same time . now i do not let pain get to me very often and have a job where u have to be fairly fit and strong . but when it hit me last night i dropped like stone in pain so bad i could not even call my to come help and was in tears . after 20 mins of this my wife wondered why i had come to bed , only to find me on the floor like a helpless child .

I can't believe I'm not alone. Last night was the worst of the worse. I sit here typing with my legs shaking I'm so afraid they will come back. Mine start in one leg and when that spasm is over moves to the other. I have been getting them for the last 5 years - usually every few months. I know I get them when I don't drink enough fluids. Last night I walked around my house screaming in pain - like some other posters here I thought to myself if I had a gun I would have used it the pain is so terrible. :'( I'm going to put a salt shaker in my bedside table and try that next time. I also bought magnesium pills today - I hope they work. No one who hasn't had these can possbily understand the pain. I have had a few bouts in front of people and I know they think I am a big baby or have a very low tolerance of pain. I have read upthread about stretching exercises - Can anyone tell me what kind to try?

I experienced inner thigh cramps at a birthday party last night. I started to get up and they hit me so hard that I could not stand straight or sit back down. The pain was so intense. I had to hold on to the chair and try and stretch them out to no avail. .When the finally eased. tried to sit down again when they hit again. I was like some kind of nightmare. Being that it was a party I could not cry out but wanted to just fade away. Was afraid to go to bed that night. Wish some one could help with this as to why and what to do about them. I feel for anyone that has to endure the pain of these kind of cramps.

I have found relief with an over the counter product sold in health food and vitamin stores and now I recently found Rite Aid is selling it as well. It's called (appropriately) Leg Cramps. Inexpensive and I carry a little container with me in cars and purse as well as by my bedside. Pleasant tasting, tiny pills dissolve quickly under the tongue and work for me. I take 3 or 4 as soon as they hit and they're gone momentarily. I know what you mean, they're excruxiating ! No one who hasn't had them has ANY IDEA what it's like. Good luck. Post your results, if they work, for you. I am NOT affiliated in any way with the sale of this product and ,until I sought this out in desperation, I don't normally frequent health food establishments.

Mine seem to hit when I've been on my feet more than usual and do not drink enough water. I always have bottle of water by my side and gulp it down while I'm having them and they usually go away. Mine usually start in one leg and when it goes away the other one starts. A friend of mine told me to take magnesium pills & I haven't had one in a few weeks. But mine normally came a few months apart anyway. They are the worst pain imaginable and for me the pain after the cramp lasts for days. When you try to to explain to someone they can not understand "cramp" is such a minor thing compared to this! I'm going to buy the leg cramp pills anyway and keep them handy. Thanks!

This is the only thing that works for me as well. Real sodium chloride, not the part potassium variety. It works best for me if I put it under my tongue and keep it there as long as possible before washing it down with water. I believe it to be a low sodium condition from various causes, mostly from heavy exertion in my case. It is possibly inherited as well, as my father suffered from a similar spasm. always in the same muscle, apparently the abductor gracillis, as near as I can tell. It's always hard to pinpoint because the pain is so great. Like most of you, I started enduring the pain in my 40s, my first occurence while sleeping on the ground at a civil war reenactment. This lends credence to an earlier post by a physician citing lumbosacral spine involvement. I did ride horses as well and suffered a lower back compression from a bucking incident about the same time. I may have this looked into, because like most of you, I don't know how I'll cope with this pain as I grow older. I'm now 65, and have endured bypass, but bypass was painless compared to this inner thigh problem. That's my 2 cents worth. Glad to have found this site, and sorry to find I'm not alone in my suffering.

I was told by my doctor to drink low calorie tonic water which tastes terrible but better than the cramps. (Gin and tonic with lime is a little better, Ha Ha) I can almost pinpoint when I am going to get a cramp. 1. I am dehydrated 2. I am sitting in either a chait that is too small for me or 3. lying or sitting too long without movement especially if more pressure on one side. 4. usually but not always I am somewhat overheated I am very overweight and I feel this also has something to do with it. Thanks for all your postings on this topic as I now know I am not crazy.

I don't know of a otc one but, the last time I had one of my episodes I grabbed a muscle relaxer(prescribed for something else) and took it and boy, did it help. You know the pain that lingers after, sometimes for days, none after the pill. And that was a first. This episode was the worst yet, I was blacking out from the pain and couldn't move off the floor, if someone hadn't been here to help me, I don't know what???

I get that icey feeling too, but it is in a certain spot on my foot usually. Like I stepped in a cold puddle with my toes or the side of my foot. I hadn't connected it to these thigh cramps until I read your post. I felt it again yesterday and sure enough last night cramps! Thanks.
