Hello,
I’ve been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 4 years ago and at that point my sense of balance was damaged, i had both tingling and loss of sensation on my left side and had problems coordinating my left arm. My new neurologist has started me on Gilenya, after I was on beta interferon previously, and it’s been 3-4 months I’m on this medication and I’m starting to notice some side effects.
My blood pressure is higher than normal and I’m losing quite a bit of hair. These side effects started few months after I started on Gilenya, so I’m wondering if maybe they'll stop once my body adjusts to the medication?
Hello,
changes related to skin and hair do happen relatively often when you're on Gilenya. In most cases Gilenya causes thinning of the hair, hair loss or overly sensitive skin, but for some people it can have the opposite effect.
Either way, the hair loss is not permanent and after a while, like you said, your body gets used to Gilenya and the hair loss eventually stops. How much higher is your blood pressure? This side effect is something that you definitely will need to talk about with your neurologist.
