for the past week my buddy and i have been playing with our selves next to each other. i am not a homosexual and he claims not to be and with his dateing record i believe him. is it normal to do that and what if we were to play with each others parts, what is that considered?

You don't mention how old you and your buddy are. If you are both 30 years of age, those are two conscenting adults.
If you're 17 and he's 15, one of you is at risk for rape or contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Just cause you are turned on by playing with yourself in the same room does NOT mean that you are gay. But others may misconstrue this into evidence of gay tendencies. At age 15, I'd be very cautious about this.
If you trust your friend to be discrete, you could be fine.
But my experience is sooner or later, somebody talks and mentions it, and then the cat's out of the bag...
