i just began to notice in irritating itch around my anus and when i checked it out there was a small lump! what is this? it isn't very painful, just irritating!

it's good to hear it's not very painful as this can most likely rule out hemorrhoids. This would be very uncomfortable and you might notice something soft sticking out!
People have rashes all the time and can be caused by anything from a simple rash due to allergies, bad toilet paper, not hygienic enough etc etc...
or it could be something more troubling like genital herpes or anal warts.
If it sounds more like a wart than a simple rash, don't have sex until you see your GP so as to not spread it.
Just so you know, genital herpes are caused by herpes simplex 2 more commonly and realy aren't anything to worry about (except the ocacssional rash and bump) and genital warts are caused by HPV. Check them out on line, but see your GP to get a proper diagnosis.
In the meantime, don't have sexual contact, shower properly and keep the area dry and be safe!!
