I have an over-the-jawbone wire implant system put in place almost 30 years ago before the current implant method was created. I'm scheduled for my third operation for jawbone infection at the same implant site in less than 6 months. My dentist prescribed Amoxicillan for 10 days plus a prescription mouthwash 4 times daily after the last 2 surgeries. Should the pus be cultured this time? Aren't there other antibiotics that sould be tried. I'm 87 years old and have been told that removing the entire implant would not be possible, as much of it is fused to my jaw. I take immaculate care of my mouth and am compliant with all the dentist's recommendations. What should I do next? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
