One thing that helped me was to stop using anything that has right-angle edges or plastic ridges etc. (brush handles are like this) and also avoid anything not round. Plastic ridges might feel great but you will be rubbing away cells and creating internal abrasions. Mucus membranes are not like your dry outer skin (and are not meant to contact "hard" material plastic ridges). To promote healing you can buy a walgreens enema bottle, dump out the saline, and keep a small amount of veg. oil in the bottle to lubricate the rectum with small amounts for each #2 for awhile, to promote healing for a couple weeks. Crisco works but does not flow at room temperature and must be CAREFULLY warmed up to 98F at most. Test it on your forearm, like a baby bottle. Be advised a toilet and sewer generally cannot handle very much oil. Some dish soap down the drain might help. Be sure to see a Dr. if you're problem is beyond what's discussed here in this topic.

Hi, straight male here.
