Hi folks,
I has a Laser Protatectomy 2 weeks ago, I am all of 59 and had a Prostate size of 85 grams. The surgery has given me immense relief. I too did have a slight tinge of red in my urine during the initial 10 days and it seemed to lessen every day.
Remember to take plenty of fluids after your surgery and you should be fine. Contact me for all your questions.

Hi, my father, age 78, had this surgery 6 months ago. He has been wearing depends ever since. After surgery, the doctor told him the surgery went "fine", and there were "no problems". In reality, he found out from a second urologist that my father's sphincter (the valve that turns the flow on or off) was lasered off. We have gone to several attorneys because my parents are on a fixed income, and the depends are not covered by their insurance and are very expensive- about $150/month, not to mention how his social life has been curtailed because of leakage through the double layer of depends, and the fact that my mom is now washing up to 4 pairs of soiled blue jeans per day. It's very sad when an active, vital man has something like this happen to him. So far, the attorneys we've contacted won't take the case because it would require another doctor testifying against the first doctor, so the costs involved to prove the case, outweigh the likely amount of the award. The second urologist installed a device that's basically an artificial sphincter. It's a mechanicaldevice with a balloon near the bladder, and a button is activated inside the scrotum. So far, it's been several weeks, and it's not working either. I don't know if this forum allows the mention of specific doctor's names or the clinic involved, so I will suffice it to say, do your research before having the procedure done if you live in Upper Wisconsin.

Anyone try to sue their surgeon or not telling them of the side effects from green light laser surgery. Mine didn't tell me anything and now I have to live with reteograde ejaculation and less control then b efore as well as needing medomucil to stay regular. It's been over three months and it sems I'll be waiting a long time fo this to get better.

I was having problems urinating, going, then feeling the need to go again, even though I knew I couldn't. The uroligist I was referred to
is suppossed to be good. On the first visit, they drained almost 2,000cc's of urine(that is 2 full plastic urinals full). They couldn't believe I was not in pain. I worked many years in retaruants, where leaving your station was next to impossible. So I often held off going as long as I could. But had never had a problem. I was then diagnosed with COPD in 2004, moved to a remote location in the forest, and ended up taking 3 years for disabilaty. I was taking meds for depression before all this, and then being not able to work made it worse. I always worked long hours, and usaually had 2-3 projects going on the side. I got on to Medicaid, took 7 months to get a puminoligist, went to the first Dr & therapist, and the therapist said"about half of my patients have been in your situation and are no longer here, and I can't say that wasn't the best thing for them." The next one was 60 miles each way and would talk to me for 3-4 minutes. I finally found a decent team 40 miles each way from my home. I got my social security, so I had no coverage , and the judge only granted me 1 yr back ,instead of the 3 I had been waiting. So I have another year to wait to get onto medicare, has to be 2 years after disability. I take wellbutrin for depression, advair, nasanez, albuterol, vit B,magnesium, zanez, and ambien, and a multi vitiman. The urol;igist said that the prostate felt normal, so they did a biopsy, which was 12 samples, and every one was very painful.A few days later when I masterbated I got a gusher of blood. I called the Dr. and he said it would go away after 8 to 10 times,no worries, but nothing had been said beforehand.I was told the next step was lazer surgery, no further explanation. I had a catheter for 3 days, then had it removed. Then I was self cathing at home 3 times a day,to help shrink the bladder. I was at another Dr.s office a week and a half later and they wanted a urine sample, all that came out was blood. They sent me to the uroligist, then they took me to the surgical facility on the other side of the office and ran a scope to see if there was a problem. Said everything looked ok, so now this was my third 150.00 co-pay for the surgical side. they put a cath back in for a couple days, and when I came back the nurse yanked the cath out so hard. It hurt so bad., I came back in 2 weeks. All this time I was taking cipro,or another antibiotic for urinary tract infections. When I saw the doctor next visit, I told him about not being able to ejaculate. He said , "it may get better,or it may not". Then left the room. I did my own research and tried a couple of treatments I found on the web, working with my regular DR. which did not help. One was 120 mg of sudaphed 3 times a day, which was fine til I got stressed and it reacted with my other meds, and I thought I was going crazy..couldn't keep a thought longer than a second, like 5 people talking in my head at once. I have no problem with an erection, but there is no satisfaction when I should be ejaculating. It isn't satisfying, your still feel like you haven't climaxed, even a couple very entense times I thought something would happen , and nothing. I am a 53 yr old single male. Talk about something adding to your depression, this is it. They say it is a muscle at the base of the urinary canal that isn't acting like it should.I stopped cathing, figured that couldn't be helping. I could urinated like never before, could feel it at the end of my penis, but figured that was because I had never had that strong of a flow. Surgery was last october, and in the last few days some of the first symptoms are returning, urinating often, and not much urine when I do. If I was told of the complications ahead of time, I would not have had the surgery. I think they go to far and hit this muscle with the lazer, and it's a matter of wheter it heals or not. I wish this happened to one of them , ruining their sexual pleasure, and see then how big a deal it is! I read the other day about another procedure that is a magnet it imaging or something, and they just go in as far as the blockage, this sounds like a less invasive and safer procedure. If the muscle is letting the semen into the bladder, and the muscle is controlling the flow of urine, how exactly is something not working to let semen flow like it should?

just a update, still no improvement in condition. Still have retrograde ejaculation. Stopped self cathing, and seems that I am urinating fine.
At times, I will have precum, seminal fluid during masterbation, which comes from the same place as when you ejaculate, so it is still hard to understand why it will come out, but not an ejaculation. I had problems with trying to get workers comp for COPD, because you can't get a Dr. to testify against another Dr. So I'm sure this would be the same.

I had my Laser Prostate Surgery 3 days ago at Newport Beach Hoag Hospital.
Day one, the surgery started at 12.15pm and finished at 1.15pm. I woke up around 2.30pm. Dr. said surgery went well.
My wife took me home around 6pm with leg back, pain killer pills and antibiotic pills. At evening, there were quite a lot of blood in the urine, but no pain.
Day two, still a lot of blood in the urine, so I drank Lotus Root soup and eating Chinese Squash ( according to Chinese medicine book, these 2 things are great food for stop bleeding and creates blood) for breakfast, lunch and diner. At evening, the bleeding had reduced to very little.
Day 3, no more blood in the urine, no pain.
My Urologist Doctor told me he will remove my leg bag 7 days later, I am taking 2 antibiotic pill per day, keep drinking Lotus Root soup and eating Chinese Squash. I am feeling great and planning to go back to golf game 2 days later.

I had the Greenlight on July 12th. My prostate was pretty big at 70gr. I am 56 with a high level of fitness. I am still able to play full-court basketball with the young guys, and I don't get picked last. My job is also physically demanding. So had cath for 48 hours, then big pee and no pain and no blood for the first week and 1/2. However, this period was tough on me mentally and I lost some weight and lost appetite for 3-4 days. Blood started at about 2 weeks and lasted for a week. Would mainly be at the beginning of stream then clear. Had a rough week 3 with blood at beggining and at the end. I was pretty weak physically that week and not sleeping well at all. I am tuned a bit high and require excercise to feel calm. I did no excercise at all the first 2.5 weeks. At the end of week 3, the blood stopped and I started to feel stronger. Did light excercise, some weights and swimming for the next 2 weeks. At week 6, I felt I was on my way to putting this behind me and played 2 on 2 one day. I was setting up for a party for my wife over the weekend and lifted about 5 cases of drinks for the party. My gargae door also broke and I lifted that manually twice. It was pretty heavy. By Sunday night I was feeling a bit spent and had an ejaculation that night. On Monday morning, exactly 6 weeks after the procedure, I had a bleeding event that exceeded anything I had seen before! Blood all the way through the urination..old blood mixed with new. Had a big blood clot at the end of the bloody event. The blood cleared about 1/2 hour after the event. I have had a very painful prostate for the whole week leading up to week 7, which is tomorrow. I realize that I made some critical mistakes in week 5 leading to 6. No lifting!!!! I also drank at least 4 alcoholic drinks the night of the party. Exacerbating that was the ejacualtion. I am hoping the pain subsides so I can go back to work. No matter what the literature, or doctors, tell you. This is a 2 month recovery minimum!!

Do you guys know there is the plant named Crinum Latifolium? Those plants are used to reduce prostate naturally. Just drink the water boiled with Crinum Latifolium leaves for some 1-week treatment then you will see the difference. :-P
I have a Crinum Latifolium plant in my garden but I am not sure we can find it in Lowes, Walmart... or not.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, people, for all your information. I had PVP procedure on Aug 31, 2010. Everything seams to went well, but now, 5+ days later, I cannot empty my bladder. That started just couple of hours ago, and I have to go to the bathroom now every half an hour. I think I have some blood clots covering the urethra, but have no idea how to get rid of them by breaking them on small bits. I had couple of them out earlier. Please, give me some info, how to get those blood clots out. Thanks.

Dear convulsing friends,
I got green laser surgery done , 20 days back for enlarged prostrate. I was in jubilant mood, when I was brought back from the
operation theatre,as I could view the entire surgry, on the monitor. The pain initallly was at the pinhole made for irrigation.
I had severe back pain, started vomitting, what ever liquids I was allowed drink. Initally the urine was passing through the catheter
to the bag, which was quite comfortable, as I need not have to raise and go to the toilet. Latter ,when they removed the catheter,
I had to go to toilet, every time the urgency arose, which I found it difficult. From the second day, onwards I was having terrible
Head ache, for which I was not prepared. The nurses said that , since I used pillow after Spinal Anesthia, I get this headache,
which was really unbearable. It continued on 24 hrs basis for days.
After dicharge at home apart from Drs Medication, I tried all avaialble pain releavers but of no use. 8th day of the operation,
the Head ache vanished. Two things presently disturb me very much. Firstly while passing the urine, the urithra burns, with
excruiting Pain and pain is also felt at prostrate gland area. Secondly I still suffer from severe back pain, above the hip joint.
The frequency of urine discharge is more, literally 25% of my wake ful hours,I am on this. Even before entering the toilet, the urine
starts dicharging. Before surgery the Dr. told me, as it was green laser surgery, I can walk by the third day without any complications.
Before surgery, I had only one problem, frequently going to toilet for urination and was hale n healthy. After, the surgery the freqency
has doubled, and I hv all the above add on pains, I hv become a Patient, confined to home. I curse my self, for taking the wrong decession
to go for this operation . Can I see light at the end of the tunnel?. Will I become Normal and lead a normal Life?. Pl enlighten

Hi all,
Anyone out there who had the same issues as me? is there any hope or am I heading for a second surgery?
I am 50 yrs old, My Dr told me that I had a middle prostate lobe that is common in 10% of men. He had recommended over a year ago a surgery, but I opted not to, this time around I decided to go ahead and do it because the Dr said that in the next couple of years you will be coming to me to do it, that’s if you did not have to do it as an Emergency surgery.
I had my surgery on Dec 16th 2010, using the Green Light (laser) surgery.
Unfortunately, I am still in pain, every time I have to urinate or even number 2. Initially the Dr kept telling me that this is normal, this is part of the healing process. But after about 2 months he decided to go in with the scope again, since I was still in a lot of pain. He said that I still had tissues that have not come out and are still there that are causing my pain. While scoping he tried scraping some of them off, but it was extremely painful to where he stopped after 15 min and then he told me that I had 2 options either I would feel better after the scraping and hopefully start getting better or a second surgery to remove those tissues. I was fearful of a second surgery since the first one has not been too successful. So I met with him again and explained my concerns, and he said that the tissues should and will come out by themselves, so we decided to wait another month as he believes that the next time I see him (March 28th), I will be 100% better. Unfortunately I am still in a lot of pain everytime I urinate or go Num 2. It hurts sitting on the floor, my rectum ends up hurting a lot. I still have constant urgencies and at night I wake up every 1 hr to 2 hrs. Unfortunately it looks like I am heading for a second surgery !!!!
Now I regret ever doing this surgery, I wish I never listened to him nor to the marketing literature he gave me about Green Light surgery which is a total lie and shows that people are fine after few days or weeks from the surgery.
Has anyone been through a similar situation? Did it take you a while to heal up but then you healed up fine?
Has anyone been through similar situation? And then had a second surgery and everything went fine after that?
Any information you guys can provide are greatly appreciated.
