im in the 20's and i had a tonsillectomy last week.since i am having chronic tonsillitis and my strepto count is twice the normal ... it took me two hours for the surgery because every time my doctor takes off my tonsils it bleeds. she needs to burn it to stop the bleeding.. my tonsillectomy is rare because not all people having a tonsillectomy bleeds during the surgery. moving on.. i had sore throats and even coughing. the coughing is from itchiness made by the healing. coughing is bad since it made my days worse because of more pain. what i did was to take anti histamine meds during the night and it helps. soft gargling of hydrogen peroxide diluted in 2 parts of water also helps in the healing. the ice chips helped a lot too and cold drinks helps. EATING ICE CREAM WILL NOT HELP BECAUSE IT SURE DOES BRINGS MUCUS..you don't want that! it's been 7 days since my surgery.. there is minimal pain still but its not that painful as before.. for those having a tonsillectomy hope these helps and don't be afraid. after a few weeks you'll be fine.
goodluck...
