Several days ago I have visited my grandfather in the hospital. He is 67 years old and is recovering from open heart surgery. Anyway, he is doing fine, a recovery is going well, and he will be out in a very short time. I wanted to ask about a patient who was on the same floor, but it looked as if he is in some sort of quarantine. I over heard that it was a leprosy case?!? I mean, leprosy today?! Is that possible?

Well, let me tell you that I seriously doubt that the hospital would put such a patient on the same floor with heart surgery recovalescent. It just does not sound logical. As for leprosy today, in year 2002., 630 000 cases of leprosy was reported. Even though there are effective medications, still there are a lot of people getting infected by this disease in the world every year.
