Okay, so my friend recently just got surgery on her throat, its very complicated though, but 420 and her birthday is coming up in about 2 weeks. We know that smoking weed would be bad, but what about hash brownies?

Sunshine your friend just had surgery and I think there is no need to experiment with any type of drugs. If you want to do something nice for your friend's birthday I am sure you can come up with something brilliant and that idea doesn't involve marijuana or any other opiate.
And after throat surgery maybe she/he will have to follow some recovery procedure and that can involve drinking only tea so maybe for this birthday it would be best not to play with fire and just take it easy. Be good friend and find out what your friend can and can't do so you will be able to organize everything.
Even if your friend says it is ok to go out and drink or smoke marijuana you must be the responsible one and check everything. It is not a joke to have any kind of a surgery so try to be a grown up here and take care of your friend. He/she would probably do the same thing for you.
