Hi! lube is not required...but I will give a bit of advice I learned personally when I was much younger! I NEVER used any lube to masturbate - I didn't even realize that was an option until I was much, much older. I think that actually caused some difficulty for me when I choose to become sexually active though - and still does to this day. For YEARS I was used to achieving an orgasm with a lot of friction, so when it finally came time to do the 'real thing' it was much more difficult to get to orgasm because suddenly there was lubrication present and not nearly as much friction.
SO - that being said - my personal advice is to mix it up a little. Do it without lube sometimes, and with lube sometimes! This way your body will be used to getting pleasure different ways!
