I'm a 16 YO male.
I've heard that boxers shouldnt have sex (or masterbate 48 hours before a fight. This is (supposedly) because they will get tired during the fight. Also it seems that when i masterbate, i kinda become lazy. Then on days when i am really physically active, and work out, run etc i never feel like masterbating. It seems that my body is always in either of these two modes. why is that? logically, and biologically it would make sense that an animal would want to reproduce when food was plentiful, and it didnt have a high physical load (no pun intended). In females for example the menstral cycle may be delayed due to alot of excercise. (track runners, etc) Since seemen has a huge ammount of energy, (sperm cells are 96 pecent mitochindria- the cell organelle that stores and brakes down energy, IE fat which has 9 calories per pure gram compared to 4 for carbs and protein) Calory wise, guys have got to lose 80 calories at least during ejaculation.
Is there any way to work out alot, and still want to have sex?
What are the hormones associated with sex, and physical surval, when one works out alot.
They cant be one and the same. can they ?

It happens to me too that I don’t feel like sex after aerobics. I think that’s normal. During workouts I get rid of sexual and any other tension and always feel kind of liberated. I don’t need anything and anybody. However, this feeling I have only sometime after working out or that day. The next day I have the desire again.

Also, when I have a lot of other things on my mind, or a lot of work to do-I also don’t feel like doing it. However, if I sit at home, am supposed to study, etc…..then I get really “interested”.
When ever I feel I am in a good physical condition, I am more up to any sexual activity and I do have more energy and desire for…..it’s just that straight after exercise I don’t feel like it.

Do you have a girlfriend?

hey this is a great forum/posting - probably the only relevant one i've ever seen on the internet! sue johanson and so many experts say theres no side-effects on the body from masturbation - but ask any guy who blows a load and how energetic they feel after! i'm amazed how non-existant the information is on this subject. the thing is as guys - we masturbate for reasons like stress-emotional relief, as oppose to sexual pleasure - but the relief drains us of the energy to confort the cause of the stress - kinda like a drug! I'm not saying masturbation is a bad thing but i've noticed that if i don't do it for 2-3 weeks i have energy levels almost like back when i was a kid! if you can get over the first week - slowly your balls start to calm down and it almost feels the your hormones are balancing themselves out...then with all that energy, i find i walk str8r even talk with more energy and my eyes/mind are much sharper - so then i actually NOTICE the subtle eye contact as i walk past girls! I've heard of things like sex-trasmutation and stuff, and i can say the first week or 2 really blows but after that, life is completely different! as far use it or lose it - i jerked off after a month just to check that.. my arousal was a little slower, but all is in perfect working order baby! plus i had much better..ahm..ejaculation control...so that's my 2 cents..hopefully other dudes can corroberate!

I have heard masturbation reduces testosterone levels, from some medical journal somewhere, so I know that is true.
But, what I don't know is, by how much, for how long. I like to start off the morning by giving my little guy a handshake, but, when I do, if I don't have an appointment shortly after, I end up back in bed to do it again and again, and never get to my other less pressing obligations, so I'm trying NOT to do that first thing, but it's hard when you're hard and sleepy, kind of forget....
Anyway, I wish someone could tell me where some credible detail research on this has been done, because I lift weights, box, practice jiu-jitsu, submission wrestling, and screw...I need to keep my testosterone levels primed.
I have found that when I masturbate frequently, my erections are fuller and harder, even within the same day, where if I ignore my little friend entirely, I'm not as exciteable.
I guess in personal experience, I can say that for me the best and only TRULY beneficial time to masturbate is either right before I HAVE to go somewhere (but not to workout), before a nap (on the days that I'm that lucky), and before bed (helps me sleep and it's truly beneficial to your penis to experience hard ons and ejaculate, it's like exercise).
Oh, and to the 16 year old boxer, you're 16 and in good shape man, you can jack off DURING a fight, and you'll still have plenty of testosterone left. Your body is naturally on steroids right now, I'd have to stack 1,000's of dollars of steroids to come close to matching what your body is up to right now, so stroke away.
If you don't, you'll be too busy trying to hump everything with a hole to focus on your fight. If that 48 hours thing is true at all, it's for the old boxers out there...watch Raging Bull, used to be they would say no action for at least 2 weeks before a fight....

hey guy i really appreciate all this info. i also too believe that wacking off can drain your energy. i run high track (distance) and ocassionally i lift weights too but i feel that after masturbating, i feel weaker the next day. like i can run a decent 3 mile without much stress, but if i wack off and the next day i run a 3 mile, i feel very stressed and gets tired easily. also i am not able to lif much weight or reapeat much sets or i wont be able to run fast enough.but when i dont masturbate for say like 3 weeks, i'm usally faster then the people i run with. i dont know if its all in my head from all those myths, but i have a hard time believing about studies showing that i doesnt drain your energy. my fianl question is if jackin goff can really drain energy, how much , and how long would it take for me to retrieve back that much energy. thanks

Yea i know what u mean m8. Its like an addiction u just need to wait and wait untill ur body gets used to the change. Its because ur mind is stuck in a pattern of acceptance and it seems very uncomfortable to get out, maybe u need to do more exersice and stimulate ur mind in other ways to get the strength and abillity to look on this problem with more electric in ur brain

Masterbation is the devil's way of keeping you from pro-creation and social activity with the opposite sex. I have been masterbating non-stop since 1984. I have never had a girlfriend and I still live at home at 35. Several attempts have been made on my part to quit but I find myself out in public looking at a beutiful woman or perhaps running into an ad on Television. Like all bad habits (fast food, shop-lifting, smoking, etc.) the solution is simple and yet sooooo difficult: "Just stop doing it!".

That is why I think masterbation is a test in humanity. Of course it is easy to just pay to see sex on video or on the web but it is another thing to actually work for it. And yes...one does feel sluggish and tired after "self-pleasing" oneself. Casteration does come to mind! (just kidding).

Your friend and contributer,
Mister Manzana (not my real name).

masterbation can be both positive and negative..if you do anything in excess, its gonna be unhealthy..men often masterbate to releive stress...but at the same time you can run to achieve similar levels of fullfillment.....however our hormones do control alot of our action and masterbation is just another reaction to increased levels or stimulation..the truth is ..you do feel tired or should i say slightly exhausted after masterbating...as compared to great sex which always makes me want to do it again..the next day im not drained...so there is my question....why so energised after sex as opposed to masterbation..?..for those 'with all due respect' who maserbate too much ..you should have sex more often....not intended to offend..

aran, I know what you mean! I'm much more interested in girls when I don't masturbate and they seem to notice it too! :-D And that "sex transmutation" thing you spoke about(yeah i googled it :-) )might really have a seed of thruth in it...

I actually started masturbating at the age of 6 or 7(another kid my age told me to -don't ask) and at times I thought there was something wrong with me and got depressed and anxious and all that...Then finally, to solve my problem I decided to do the only thing i could think of, besides getting a hooker or scoring from an "ugly chick": I stopped masturbating, compeletelly! And it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, for real!

I mean, it didn't really do me no good so why bother? I realised it's better to relieve stress in other ways like running distance, working out, doing kegels&watching softcore, yoga, reading, skateboarding, snowboarding and whatever relaxing, physical or creative activity you can think of. At least I'm doing something beneficial, right?(improve endurance and flexibility, grow muscle, get self-respect, confidence-->get money, power, love? Maybe if I can keep it up, who knows... 8) ) The one thing I'm certain of is that I've never felt this confident before. The girls have really nothing I need so they have no power over me anymore. I have no need to be scared or nothing. It's almoust too good to be true!

The first thing that scared me when i began "my experiment" was that after 4 weeks or so there was a period where the girls didn't seem as interesting to me as before. I felt I had started to loose my sexdrive o.O But then I came in my sleep so I guess there was no real damage done. I got the sexdrive back too and maybe even slightly stronger than before ;-)

I've now gone on without masturbating for bout 5 months. First my goal was to reach 6 months but now there seemsto be no reason to stop. The benefits outweight the pleasure for me i guess.

The only downside to all this I've discovered is that i can't help coming in sleep every now and then :$ (do they make male tampons!?) Well, new sheets and boxers and it's all good.

In the end I think quitting masturbation is propably a lot like quitting smoking, drugs, alcohol etc. or going on a diet. The start is always the hardest part and all you really need is motivation, determination and something to put all your newfound freedom and spare energy to...(something like writing super-long messages on internet forums? Whuuh...I need a girlfriend, baaadddd) Miia, what's up? :-D

I think masterbating makes us feel lonely, pathetic, and despirate at times. Thus, making us feel depressed. A side affect of feeling depressed is lack of energy. not to mention the physical activity it requires

Hey, speak for yourself. I don't feel depressed when I masturbate. I feel quite healthy when I do it, actually. So I don't think that's totally a valid theory. What do you think?

I believe it is a lot down to psychology, so that is why I appreciate everyone's take on this subject, as you are all correct. (except for the odd religious nut here and there) 8-|
