A friend of mine is a "life coach" by profession, which in practice is a fancy title she gave herself for a psychology degree. Every weird treatment that they think up, she knows about, and the more "out there" it is, the more she is likely to try it. I was curious when she mentioned that there are some medical applications to meditation? What on earth does that mean?

Well, I have to say that I am not sure about meditation, but have you ever heard of a technique called hypnosurgery? In case you hadn't, it is what it sounds like. They put you in a state of hypnosis and then carry out surgical procedures - no anaesthesia necessary. So in that sense, if you mind can do the trick, why would you need drugs, which can carry risks? If that is what your friend is referring to, I definitely think it is fascinating, though obviously not the way forward when it comes to open heart surgery!
