I have been going to a methadone program for about 4 months. I stopped at 90 mgs of the liquid because I didn't want to go any higher than that once I heard all of the horror stories about withdrawals. Does it make much difference if you're on it 4 months or 4 years? Will the withdrawals be any different? I am so afraid of the withdrawals I have heard about that I also consider getting back on an opiate and ween myself off from them instead of the methadone. Would that be a viable option?

It does matter how long you're on it....the longer the harder it is to get off it. However, getting on another opiate is just plain stupid. Don't believe everything you hear about withdrawal. Sure it is difficult to get off it but do not be in a hurry because you will fail. Be prepared for a long process but it is not impossible

I don't think anyone on here is any position to tell someone something is stupid. What worked for you may not work for someone else.
