All: my doctor told me it was a paper type ingredient used in the gel and she hears about it frequently from patients. Better to try the Flagyl pill form for BV like I did instead.

I was told that this product can also cause a yeast infection as well, which after seeing my doctor was easy to treat with a one dose pill. I noted that if I have to be treated with this product again that I will also ask for the yeast pill because of the probability that I will develope yeast again after using this product.

I want to know how long it took for the discharge to go away. This discharge that is a side effect of the medication isn't like the disharge that you get from a yeast infection. I stopped using the gel, after one day, and I switched to the tablet. Now, it is two days laters, and I still have this very nasty discharge that I was told was a side effect of the gel. Does anyone have an idea of how much longer this discharge will last or how I can get rid of it? I am already taking diflucan because my doctor informed that the antibiotic would cause a yeast infection; therefore, he wanted to treat both simulatenously?

Hey everyone,
I just want to say I'm happy I found this message board. I have been dealing with Bacterial Vaginosis (mixed with intermittent yeast infections due to take Metronidazole) for the past 6 MONTHS!
I began seeing a family doctor who repeatedly prescribed me the pill and gel form of the medication. This never really cleared up my issue at all, it made the symptoms go away sometimes, but once I had sex again it all came rushing back. I got sick of taking that medication since the side effects are a pain in the butt. I then gave up on the medication because I found out it can actually be bad for you since it kills ALL the bacteria (good and bad) in your vagina and never replenishes the good bacteria.
I began looking for natural remedies and they helped me more than anything else. I began by lowering my intake of sugar and yeast products. I then started drinking Kefir milk daily, eating probiotic sugar-free yogurt (which you can get at Trader Joes), drinking Green Machine (or any of the other green drinks by Odwalla, etc), and taking a multi-vitamin daily. The next thing I did was use one of the old applicators from the medication (after sterilizing it of course) to insert plain, non-fat, sugar-free pro-biotic yogurt into my vagina. It was weird, and a bit uncomfortable; but it helped. To restore the pH I began taking a bath with apple-cider vinegar in it which also sooths you down there. I filled the tub just enough to cover my bottom and added about a cup of vinegar. This all helped more than metronidazole. It didn't make it go away completely, so I saw a gyno finally who told me you aren't supposed to use metronidazole on a constant basis as I was. She then prescribed me Clindamycin and Flagyl. This helped me a lot more than Metron. as well.
I was wondering though if it leads to vaginal dryness? I would assume so, but I thought I'd ask.

I was also wondering if anyone who has had BV has been taking YASMIN? I heard that the type of pill you're on can sometimes cause BV to be more persistent and my doctor said that it could be due to YASMIN; however, I really don't want to to switch pills if I don't have to (so much to go through). But if it means my BV will go away I will stop.
Thank you!

Hey Guy,
So i've been to my doctor last November and found out that i had BV. But by the time I had gotten in with the doctor my symptoms were gone. I got prescribed the Metronidazole Vaginal gel but never used it. Now i'm experiencing the same symptoms i did before and my doctor can't see me for another month. I've tried Vagisil creme to get rid of the harsh symptoms but its not working.. I kinda just want to use the medication I was prescribed those months ago. What should I do?
Oh and another thing, I've only gotten BV when we use condoms. Is it the condom or the boy??? haha
Thanks

The discharge is normal, I'm very fascinated with my body and pay very close attention to it, especially my special spot because I like to used it. But the discharge is normal and only is the result of the medication running back out of you. It has to because it can't stay up there and just disappear!! I like to believe that it's also bringing the infection out because after you are finished with the medication, after a few days, there is little to nil, mostly normal discharge. About the pills, I'm unsure, but since it is used to treat a vaginal infection, theres probably gonna be something going on with the vagina until after the medication has cycled.

The white clumpy discharge that comes out is actually the medicine. Once you insert the gel in to your vagina it stays up there and coats the inside as any gel it will start to congeal and become a solid and as that happens the clear gel turns into that solid somewhat sticky white pasty balls and comes out of the vagina.

when those white things comes out like you lady's say what do you do do you wash it out right away or sit there and wait till it stops????????????????????????????????????

I have recently been diagnoses with BV and my doctor prescibe me the clindamycin and the metronidazole vaginal gel. she has me only using the gel twice a week for a month then once after my period. I am also a Pharmacy Techician and am a junki about knowing about the medications that I get and talking with my boss (a pharmacist) she said that it is possible to get a yeast infection from the anitibiotics, yes; however, from the Metronidazole is a medication that is used to resurface new growth from cells and the topical form of the cream is use to treat rosacea patients...with that said, the Vaginal form is used to shed the linning of the vagina and kill the bacteria in there, thus, women may get a light to clear discharge with little white ball looking chunks in them...this should not be confused with a yeast infection that has thick, pasty, white, clumpy discharge...it's normal while taking this medication, to get the little clumps because its basically buring off all the skin cells in your vagina. like i said, there will be a light or clear discharge associated with it, because "discharge" is a way for your vagina to rid itself of bad bacteria (the color and viscosity determins whether it is good or bad dishcharge)....this medication can make me a little itchy, so to clean the clumps, i just fill up the tub and soke in it for a while to get the clumps out, and the itching stops after that. if you do happen to get a yeast infection from this though, it's not anything to get freaked out over, since it's very common for women to get a yest infection from taking antibiotics. just see your doctor and he or she will prescibe you something to clear it up..usually the fluconazole 150 mg tablet , which for a yeast infection is usually prescibed as the one tablet dose and you're good to go. I just wanted to inform some of you since there are people on here are telling others that the clumps are 100% without a doubt a yest infection, when in fact they are not and if anyone wants to challenge what I say, ask your Doctor and he or she will tell you pretty much the same exact thing I just wrote :)

Not all white discharge is indications of a yest infection. I was having thick white/clear discharge after using the cream and went to my OB was told this was normal. So best bet is to go to your doctor an have him/her have the final say.
