Flagyl IS metronidazole, just in pill form as opposed to the vaginal gel.

Metronidazole and Flagyl are the exact same thing. One is the brand name (Flagyl) and the other is the generic form.

I am 18 weeks pregnant. I've had a yeast infection for a few weeks and then used Monistat 3 and then Monistat 7 as prescribed by my doctor. The yeast infection went away. The week after I went to my GYN and she tested me to make sure the yeast was gone. Sure enough, it was gone. But then she told me I was positive for a bacterial infection, so she prescribed me Metrogel. Since day 1 when I started using it, I have been having a thick clumpy (almost curdled) discharge. Completely different looking than my usual yeast infection discharge. The GYN told me it's the bacteria coming out, and that it IS normal. This is my 6th night taking it because i still have some discharge coming from it. I also heard that Metrogel can cause a yeast infection because it's like an antibiotic and eats all the bacteria (even the normal flora) in the vagina. So I take Acidophilus pearls and eat yogurt every day.

nurse33131, it actually IS a normal side effect of metronidazole gel. of course a yeast infection can occur after use, the white, chunky discharge is a common side effect from the gel. please do your research before you fear monger.

Please read all of the comments people. The brown/white clumpy discharge is NORMAL. It is the infection leaving your body. If you are experencing any others issues you should really contact your GYN. Also start taking probiotics daily
