Someone please help, I've been on the gel for 5 days and my symptoms have not subsided, and my discharge is one of the main problems I have, its a thick white and sometimes dry mass, to me it looks like scrambled egg whites or dry cottage cheese, it has no smell, also my vaginal area is very swollen and itchy, more painful than itchy though, btw I have bacterial vaginosis

If you are having intercourse with someone you slept with before you got treated, then that person is probably carrying the infection as well. He won't have symptoms, but he will reinfect you every time you have sex if he doesn't get treated.

Flagyl IS metronidazole, just in pill form as opposed to the vaginal gel.

Metronidazole and Flagyl are the exact same thing. One is the brand name (Flagyl) and the other is the generic form.

I have a question last night I took my second dosage. I woke up this morning and used the bathroom and there was like a mix of the gel and brown vaginal discharge is this normal?

I am 18 weeks pregnant. I've had a yeast infection for a few weeks and then used Monistat 3 and then Monistat 7 as prescribed by my doctor. The yeast infection went away. The week after I went to my GYN and she tested me to make sure the yeast was gone. Sure enough, it was gone. But then she told me I was positive for a bacterial infection, so she prescribed me Metrogel. Since day 1 when I started using it, I have been having a thick clumpy (almost curdled) discharge. Completely different looking than my usual yeast infection discharge. The GYN told me it's the bacteria coming out, and that it IS normal. This is my 6th night taking it because i still have some discharge coming from it. I also heard that Metrogel can cause a yeast infection because it's like an antibiotic and eats all the bacteria (even the normal flora) in the vagina. So I take Acidophilus pearls and eat yogurt every day.

This is not true. It is normal. I have used this same medication countless times, always with the white discharge. Yeast infections start itching with discharge around the clitoris, BV medication side effect is he chunks from in the vagina when you wipe after urinating.

BV is not an STD. It is simply an imbalance of the ph in the vagina.

nurse33131, it actually IS a normal side effect of metronidazole gel. of course a yeast infection can occur after use, the white, chunky discharge is a common side effect from the gel. please do your research before you fear monger.

Please read all of the comments people.  The brown/white clumpy discharge is NORMAL.  It is the infection leaving your body.  If you are experencing any others issues you should really contact your GYN.  Also start taking probiotics daily

Ok well no one ever answered the question about if you see blood with the clear discharge. I've been on the gel for three days now and between the day I have clear discharge with a string of blood(it doesn't look like cottage chesse) but I don't have back pains anymore... So is the bleeding fine or a miscarriage or what?! There isn't no smell.
