If any of you ladies have any questions you may find this site to be helpful in order to gain knowledge on possible side effects and see that it's okay to continue use during your periods Although many of us have opinions please keep in mind that unless you get evaluated by a MD there is no definitive answer, however doing research by the actual drug company itself and reading the side effects is the only way to learn about this bacterial infection and the effects it may have on you. Me personally was confused on a few things but the site listed below answered a few questions I had hope this can help

I had a severe case of BV, discharge was green and very liquidy so the Dr prescribed the Metro gel vaginally and a few hours after the first dose started to get the clumping discharge. The Dr. had already warned me about it so I'm not freaking out, taking probiotics, garlic, azo yeast, folic acid and eating my daily yogurt hoping to avoid the yeast infection. The Metro gel kills ALL bacteria and you have to try to get the balance of good and bad back again.

Hey! I've been using the gel for 2 days. This might sound strange but does it matter how far you insert the applicator stick into your vagina? I'm not sure if I'm inserting it far enough.

you are suppose to lay on your back and bend your knees. insert the applicator up into the vagina as far as it will go comfortably. the further in the better. good luck

Everyone, please read all the prior postings. The Pharmacy Tech is correct. I think that the best way to describe the discharge is white in color, clumpy balls of cottage cheese. literally, it looks like cottage cheese.

i have had bv several times in the past few years., it usually begins after sex. my new obgyn informed me that semen contains things such as sugar and protein, that can feed the bad bacteria in the vagina and cause an overgrowth which can lead to bv. she said to rinse out the vagina after sex with plain water... i have heard many people advise against douching but she says if its just w plain water and only after sex that it is more benificial than harmful. cant say whether it works for me or not yet bc im just beginning to try it

Omg I just started the treatment with the gel after finding out I have bv I also at the same time foundout I have 2 cysts on my right ovary. I have a weird reddish brown and white discharge.. its surrounded by a clear dishcarge its nasty looking. no scent at all sort of stringy tissue like very weird looking. I called my doctor she said that its likely to be all of the infection coming out. itcouldve been that I had the infection really bad and not known and now that its being treated the gel is working and all the infection is draining out. I am also 5 weeks pregnant so I thought I was missarrying but she said everything I was describing sounded normal. and obviously if I had any severe pain associated with it or heavy bleeding than I should seek medical attention. but it is nasty looking and scared me. but she says its fine. I am still going to keep my doctor informed if anything changes. always better to be on the safe side of things.

This vaginal gel is normally used to treat BV. The symptoms of BV is:Fishy smelling odourWhite cream discharge (can be thick or runny)Can be some itching.

Everyones symptoms are different, some women don't even know they have BV until they are tested for the PH levels in their vagina.

I am a Health Care Assistant and yes Thrush has the white discharge, its NOT always thrush, so CHECK with your doctor or pharmacist before purchasing anything for your vagina UNLESS you're certain!Thrush can be treated by Antibiotics if the OTC (Over the Counter) medicine hasn't worked for you. Speak to your Doctor for this Antibiotic.

There is a new product which can be bought in Pharmacies called Balance Activ which is designed to balance the PH Levels in the vagina and treat BV.

I am allergic to condoms and I always get a BV infection after having sex.  I used to take the oral Metronidazole and I also used the gel. I got so sick of constantly going to the doctor to treat my infection that I started looking for other options.  I finally found an over-the-counter alternative to Metronidazole. It's called Rephresh. You can find it at your local drugstore (Walgreen's, Walmart, CVS, etc) and its usually in the section with the feminine products (tampons, pads, etc).  It's a gel that you insert into your vagina. I started using it before and immediately after sex and I don't get BV infections anymore!
