I was choked when I found out that some teenagers are mixing Prozac and alcohol. I don’t know how they got Prozac, but they seem to do that often. I haven’t told to anyone, I was thinking talking to them first, try to scare them ….is mixing dangerous?

Alcohol is a depressant, so when mixing alcohol with antidepressants, such as Prozac a person's ability to operate normally is impaired. Alcohol has a paradoxical effect for those being on antidepressants. Alcohol actually worsens one’s symptoms for ADD, and makes the person hyperactive, impulsive, etc.

It's really sad, but I lost a friend and blacked out at another friends 8-year-old sons birthday party. At first (on Prozac) I would drink socially and felt fine. No buzz, nothing. So I kept drinking....and drinking...and oh, a light buzz. How nice. One more drink and BLAM! I'm on the floor or (maybe) worse yet calling everyone around me names and laughing at my own jokes or daring people to do vulgar things. I am told this the next day mind you, I never remember a thing. Oh, there was that time we went to the beach with friends and I passed out flat on my face only to wake up with a sunburn on my back and puke in my hair. Sexy, huh? I found out it takes your body a long time to metabolize Prozac fully so while your drinking you're still metabolizing the Prozac. That means you are NOT processing the alcohol. Now its late and you're body if finished metabolizing the antidepressant and WHOA- it has a bunch of alcohol waiting to be processed into your system all at once. Of course you will crash. You'll black out. You'll lose friends. Or your virginity for the tenth time. You could even die. I know NONE of this will scare any teen out there, so here's something that'll scare the ever-living sh*t out of them...just tell them they will gain a lot of weight. And I mean ALOT. I did. A lot of people gain a bunch of weight on Prozac. Tell them they will stop sneak-stealing their mom's Prozac in favor of their mom's mom-jeans. Pretttty.
