Jun 19th I was wakeboarding at Lake Powell. Trying to land my backflip, however, that didn't happen. I came down on the toes of my left foot. Bullfrog Marina Clinic wasn't the best place to be seen after an injury like this, but at this point we didn't know what it was. I came home and within a week I has seen a podiatrist and two ortho surgeons. I choose to go with the utah county ortho surgeon that specialized in foot and ankle surgeries. I am so glad that I did! A had my surgery and now have 3 screw and 2 pins. The doc said that everything went together nicely and no anticpation of arthritis or long term problems.
I think that I am really fortuneate after reading many of the posts here. Cast off after two weeks and now in walking boot with no weight bearing yet. Still sporting the crutches. In two weeks I will have my pins out and will be walking at that point. Then in November (4 months after surgery) I will have the screws out. I really think that my doc is very good and is doing everything correctly after reading what other people are going through.
I am nervous about walking on it after babying it for so long. Any advice about walking on it? Also does anyone know if I can so swimming with pins sticking out of my foot?
Any advice or things to look for would be great. Oh, and talk to your doctors because I don't have insurance (except the boat people are going to pay $1000) After surgery I have only spent $5000. And that is before the insurance pays the grand!!! I think that is pretty cheap for this type of injury.

Hi Wakeboarder (Josh)
SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING GREAT !!!! Make sure to ask your doctor about the weight bearing, though. They generally have you progressing a certain percentage each week according to your body weight.
MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO YOUR ORTHOPEDIC SPECIALIST FIRST !!!! The weight bearing I was told to do was 25 % of my total body weight the first week, then 50 % the second week, so on and so on week by week until I reach 100 % (full body weight) in probably the fourth week. That is what my ortho specialist told me though. Yours might have a different approach.
Many blessings to you.
