I had Mirena for exactly one year and had zero periods. After the one year mark, I had my first period and it lasted about 3 days. I didn't think there was any reason for concern because I had a stressful week and thought that it was normal. The period stopped after about 3 days, but a week later I had spotting for a full week. It stopped and another week later I had more spotting off and on. It started to worry me a bit and quite frankly it was also annoying to have irregular bleeding off and on for a month, so I went to the doctor. When I arrived I told him my symptoms and he informed me that the strings could be scratching me or it was misplaced by my previous doctor. When he went in to check it was not there and of course I panicked. I have no idea when it fell out. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort, I never saw it anywhere when using the bathroom and it is unnerving to think that it can fall out without any warning. When I started my next period I went back and had a new one inserted. I'm now very concerned that it could fall out again and I just spent $700 on this new one, so I can't keep shelling out hundreds of dollars for this device every time it falls out. Do you think it is likely to fall out again because it already fell out once? Is my body rejecting the device? Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?
