My daughter is 16 years old and has been vomiting daily. She was hospitalized 3 weeks ago for vomiting 10 days straight. She started this when she was 9 years old eating all day and throwing up everything she ate by night time. She has been to several different doctors and they cannot find out what is wrong with her. The last doctor she saw diagnoised her with rumination syndrome and told me to seek a psycritist. I have read this information on rumination syndrome and it does not seem to fit. She vomits not only halfway between meals but after meals and sometimes the next day prior to eating. I am so angry with the medical community because no one wants to take time to help us. I don't where to go next. She did stop vomiting for long periods prior to this stint that has lasted about a month. She is always tired and cannot live a full life as a teen due to this problem. She even had her gallbladder removed 3 years ago thinking that would help. Could SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE TO GO FROM HERE. :'(

Hi Lacee! Below is a site that I found for you that mentions about the increasing numbers of healthy adolescents! I read this article and it seems to be saying what you are needing - as in that it is not a mental disability illness!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumination_syndrome

Take note of where it mentions that there is a lack of awareness, and like you stated, most doctors pass you off - especially when they don't know what to do next! They buy into their own "God Complex"!

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/reprint/111/1/158

Do you have a pediatrician for your daughter? If not I would definitely ask around - friends, co workers etc - to find a compassionate and knowledgable!

I wish you and your daughter, strength, health and all the best in the future! I hope this helps even a little, as a parent of teenagers I TOTALLY understand your feelings of desperation and your gut instincts that something is wrong! Keep questioning, and also know this, when my youngest son was born with a disability, I started looking for different hospitals online and sending emails to different doctors! Where we live the children's hospital is one of the best in North America, but it made me feel better that I was doing something for my son! And I'm sure this will help you too if you start talking to childrens hospitals or doctors that have been posting documents regarding this condition! The more you ask - experts - the more you can bring that information to your doctors - as this condition is not really known! Good luck honey!

I used to have the same problem but when I went out to eat only, whenever I went out to eat with anyone, family or friends I would get sensations of throwing up. Now its gone, I can't recall if I did anything to stop it though, sorry.

Never Diagnosed with anything, because I never told anyone. I think it had something to do with me being nervous around large groups of people.

But whatever it may be its been gone for almost 4 years or so.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment of what was going on. Technically what you had does count as an eating disorder, so if someone else is suffering from this, that's the way to understand it best. THanks for your post!

Hi there, that definitely sounds like you had an eating disorder. What steps did you take to get over it? I am curious to hear more myself!

As I said before, I don't recall taking any steps to over come it. Or if I did I can't remember it, it was a while ago.

That's very strange. Usually people have to do something to overcome an eating disorder like that. You didn't see a therapist or change anything? I am not meaning to pry or bother you, but I am curious as to how you were able to get better without remembering! :-) Thanks!

None, never.

I don't think it was an eating disorder per say, It just stopped happening. Also I never actually threw up, just the sensation like I was going to.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense then! It sounded at first like an eating disorder from what you were saying, but now it sounds like it might have been malnutrition or something along those lines. Thanks for letting me pick your brain for this. I was just curious :)

My daughter has exactly this problem ! We're just entering our 3rd week of her vomiting everytime she eats something! She has lost so much weight she looks like a Skelton! We took her to the hospital and they couldn't find anything, they said it could be reflux and we are now waiting for an appointment for a barium meal scan and blood results. we're tearing our hair out with worry And she is getting upset about being ill and loosing so much time off school :-(

My daughter is 10 & she has been vomiting her whole life. I use to regurgitate a small amount of food as a kid in my mouth & swallow it back down but this is not her problem. Hers is to large of & amount & has to run to a bush, sink or toilet. Sometimes she has thrown up on her lap while we were driving. It has been increasing in amount & frequency lately. A Doctor once told me she moves around to much after she eats & said not to worry but it's not the easiest thing to be ignorant of.
I do not like Doctors & so am doing some random research online. My gut feeling is all the toxins that are in food. Even healthy organic food is toxic unless prepared properly or eaten in the right amount for your bodys requirements. I would like her to stop eating pastries as un fermented grain (especially whole grains of anything) are extremely toxic. Dough needs no less then 6 but appovimately 12 hours to be perfectly digestable an toxin free. The mix of water & time helps to positively transform many foods to a more neutral state for consumption.

Ok. I had the same problem. Well I should say "have" the same problem. The thing is, she could be purging. You know? Bulimia. Well yeah. I've been throwing up for 3 weeks straight and haven't been able to even walk. You should mention bulimia as an issue to the doctor. He'd check it out and prescribe you with a medicine for your daughter that should stop her from throwing up after a few uses but she needs to know that purging.. It's not the answer to anything. I'm 14 so it might be a little different for her but lemme tell her, bulimia is way worse than whatever reason she might be doing that. I hope you show her this message and I hope I helped. - Camryn, 14
