I just woke up this morning with a terrible sore tonsil on one side, and stuffy. I felt some thick mucous and when it came out it too was orange and mass quantities of it. I've never seen anything like it before, either...it was thick as mayonaise but looks like orange juice. Blech!
I wonder if there is some new gross bug out there. I too, just "got over" a cold that I picked up in San Diego over the Thanksgiving holiday.

I can't believe there are so many that have the same symptoms, exactly just as I have---Yoke colored, watery at first with a burst. Don't know what it is. Boy would I like to. I was in Micro lab this year and learned most bacteria cause a turbidity (cloudy), but this seems to be yoke colored with transparency---WEIRD!!!!

I'm experiencing the same thing. It is only occuring from one side and it happens if I lean my head forward (as you would to pick something up off the ground.) I have not been sick and otherwise feel fine. However, this is quite alarming.
It just started today. Has anyone else with these symtoms found out what the problem is (or did it just spontaneously resolve?)

I have been sick with a bad cold for over a week and have been feeling much better the last 2 days. Last night while watching tv I drpped the remote. Bent over to pick it up and fluid gushed out of my nose. There was quite a lot. Enought that it trickled out and went on the floor. As soon as I sat up there were a few more drips of this orangey liquid I grabbed a Kleenex, sat back down and bent over once again to see what would happen. It continued to pour out my nose until I sat up again. Not sure what causes this but I have had pain behind my eye and under my cheekbone on the left side (same side the stuff comes from.) Indicating a sinus infection. Oddly enough nothing comes out the right side except normal thick mucus with the standard turbidity Even though I have no diagnosis I am very much inclined to think it is the result of a sinus infection I didn't know I had.

Today, I had the same thing, out the right side, twice.
Once this morning when I woke up - and again this afternoon. I describe it as orange jello in colour with clear liquid too, it is not cloudy and only out the right side. I have not been diagnosed with an infection, and I too said, holy, I've never seen anything like this. I said it to a few people and I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
I've had stuffy ears, so that's possible, an ear overflow of sorts. I'm going to see the doctor if it happens more, but I'm going to try the bending over thing to see if it drains. I also have pain in my ear when I try to clear my nose.
Whassup with that orange though?

I had this happen to me 2 days ago. All of us at work must exercise before beginning and during one exercise we have to bend over and fluid came out of my nose very quickly and went on the floor. I thought my nose was bleeding so I ran quickly to get a kleenex and nothing but orange was coming out of my nose! This also happened again today. I was worried that something was seriously wrong but I had a very serious infection a few weeks ago and was on antibiotics. My ear has also been hurting so I wonder if it IS fluid in the ear coming out some how. My sinuses have been terrible since being sick. 8-|

My husband took a very hot shower this morning, when he got out he bent and leaned back into the shower to have his nose start running with this orange liquid. It wouldn't stop for a few minutes. It also was partnered with a headache and dizziness. I have a headache but none of the other symptoms, maybe it's not related or maybe it's something in the house, possibly monoxide. If anyone finds out anything I hope you'll post it here. Thanks, Chris

I have just experienced this today. I went in a week ago to the doctors, having stuffed up nose, green mucus coming out, and coughing alll the time. He diagnosed it as sinus infection, giving me prescription pills (5 total, taking one a day). I finished those, and I was slightly feeling better on them, and coughing much less. I still have a little bit of a stuffed nose today, the 1st day completely without the pills (I am now taking Claritin D pills for the congestion). I sit down at work, and blow my nose. Amazing amounts of this dark orange, almost brown mucus flowing out. My trash bin is full of horrible looking tissues. Reading this, I might wait to see what happens (with me.) Before paying the Doctor's another visit.
Off to get a bunch of water to drink!

It is probly the end of an infection like a sinus infection. From reading everyones post and noticing what happens, that is what I conclude. It happens after they take the antibiotics, or after they say they've gotten over what they think is a cold. Well, I was sick for like 4 or 5 days now, I am pretty sure it was a sinus infection (I get those a lot) and my head hurts! My mucus was neon green for like 3 days, then finally this evening when I notices today I felt I was getting better, I had bright orange mucus. I didn't know what it was so I looked it up and ended up here! Hope you all get better! Follow up with us to let us know if you felt better like the next day or if your cold was at the end when you noticed the orange snot. It'd be interesting to see if I was kinda right! XD Feel better everyone! Mel

I have had (what I think is) a sinus infection for a couple of weeks. I noticed today the same orange/brown thick mucus during the day. Now in the evening, it's thin but still orange and only on the left side (where I still have pain/pressure. Anyone find out what this is or are we all doomed?

I had no clue that so many people are experiencing the same thing as me.
It all started as a simple cold after I came back from my trip (by plane).
First a normal cold, then both eyes infection, then ear infection, and now orange mucus. And its been over a month now Ive been battling these infections. I dont know what to do anymore. Anyone has any ideas?

I went to the doctor yesterday, and she said that I have Bronchitis and a little pneumonia. The mucus coming out of my nose is dark brown and thick. I've never seen mucus that color before. Yuk! Why is it that color? Is something else going on?

I'm not sure about the tin, uncontrolable discharge, but if you're coughing if up, its most likely a sinus infection. There are 3 colors, each meaning a different infection level
Clear/White means your sinuses are clear, but excessive ammountts means something is irritating them, and they're flushing themselves. White means while there may be bateria in your sinuses, they aren't flourishing.
Basically, green snot or "productive cough" (stuff comes up when you cough; phleghm) means that you have bateria growing in your sinuses, and
Orange colored means you have a sinus infection. The walls of your sinuses are very thin, and packed with blood vessels (which is why some people get nose bleeds on planes or by increasing the blood pressure in their head). When bacteria establish themselves in your sinuses and start attacking cells, its not very long before they eat away a blood vessel, and you get a small nose bleed. The orange color is the brown-red blood and the neon-green bacterial mucus mixing.
I'm not a doctor, so I can't diagnose the people with the uncontrolable runny discharge (my was thick and usually was coughed up or post nasal), but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say your infection was probably in sinus close to the nose.
I would recommend you see a doctor as soon as possible, not so much because of the severity, but because you'll so much better once its cleared.
